Who We Are
At the Community Action Council of Howard County (CAC), our mission is to diminish poverty and enable self‑sufficiency for all individuals, families, and children in need within Howard County. We focus on five critical services: housing assistance, food assistance, energy assistance, weatherization assistance, and early childhood education. WhoYou Are
As a Classroom Aide at CAC, you will support infants, toddlers, and preschool classrooms, helping to create a learning environment based on sound, developmentally appropriate practices. The ideal candidate will adhere to CAC’s Early Childhood Education (ECE) program’s education, health, safety, and nutritional standards.
Responsibilities- Support the implementation of a daily classroom program that provides quality teacher and child‑initiated activities in indoor and outdoor settings, with timely and predictable transitions.
- Make timely requisitions for health, safety, and classroom supplies and maintain clean play areas.
- Set up and take down equipment as needed.
- Document attendance and understand the ECE student attendance policy.
- Serve as a positive role model, maintaining the highest level of professional and ethical behavior with all internal and external stakeholders.
- Attend work regularly according to the assigned schedule and comply with Agency policy.
- Comply with all ECE Program Performance Standards and Maryland State Department of Education Standards.
- Create a culturally and linguistically appropriate classroom that reflects each child’s home language, culture, and family composition.
- Work cooperatively with staff, supervisors, administrators, co‑workers, community professionals, clients, and the public.
- Invite parents to become integral participants in the program by providing opportunities for parental involvement in classroom and agency activities.
- Participate in in‑service training, staff meetings, and other professional development activities.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications- Valid high school diploma or GED, or Infants & Toddlers Child Development Associate (CDA) certification.
- Minimum age of 19 to apply.
- 45‑hour Child Growth & Development Birth‑Age 12 program completion.
- 45‑hour Infant & Toddler Curriculum completion.
- 9‑hour Communication Skills, ADA, Basic Health and Safety Training completion.
- One or more years of experience working with children aged 0–36 months.
- Read, write, comprehend, and speak English.
- Proficiency with Office Suite programs and academic platforms as needed.
- Ability to work a split‑shift schedule that includes both morning and afternoon hours.
- Ability to maintain a safe environment for up to 22 people, including physical ability to evacuate students and clients during disaster drills and emergency situations.
- Ability to move quickly to respond to children who are very active and may need redirection to ensure their safety and the safety of others in the environment.
