The traffic control supervisor oversees operations related to traffic control including road and highway construction projects. The Traffic Control Supervisor is responsible for setting up and maintaining temporary traffic control in work zones. Duties include using traffic control devices to divert drivers and pedestrians, monitoring road repairs, and supervising teams as they install equipment. Oversee traffic flow and ensure safety at construction sites.
This is a DOT-related position and will be subject to FMCSA regulations. The primary duty is to coordinate and inspect traffic control set-ups for conformance with approved traffic control plans, MUTCD guidelines and local entity requirements. Must have current TCS Certificate and must be willing to travel (Per Diem will be paid).
- Follow all safety rules and regulations of the Company and particularly the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations.
- Supervise/assist TCT/laborer/driver in traffic control responsibilities.
- Coordinate TCT assignment with dispatch.
- Operate company trucks to transport materials and equipment to job sites.
- Drive MOT (Management of Traffic) vehicle to and from projects and on work sites.
- Drive TMA (Truck Mounted Attenuator) vehicle to and from projects and on work sites to protect workers and work zones.
- Place temporary construction signs in work areas.
- Position arrow boards or variable message boards in work areas.
- Set up traffic cones and other traffic safety devices in work areas.
- Monitor the work zone throughout the shift to ensure items remain in their proper locations.
- Collect and load traffic control items at the beginning and end of shifts.
- Install, remove, and reset delineators, signs, posts, and supports.
- Make deliveries, pick-ups and job checks in a safe, efficient, and timely manner.
- Maintain accurate and timely Pre-Trip and Post Trip Inspection Paperwork.
- Efficiently communicate with all levels of people - employees, customers, accident information, maintenance service schedules, etc.
- Conduct themselves in a manner that promotes a professional and respectful atmosphere and ensure that the service encounter with the customer is an exceptional experience.
- Perform a needs assessment when speaking with customers to translate their requests into related products.
- Maintain delivery/pickup tickets.
- Learn/Responsible for safe lifting, loading, unloading of equipment to and from trucks.
- Keep company vehicles clean and orderly, informing management of any safety concerns or vehicle problems.
- Arrive to work site on time wearing proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and applicable safety gear.
- Adhere to all Company Policies and Procedures.
- Direct traffic at construction sites to ensure the safety of workers, pedestrians, and motorists.
- Set up and maintain traffic control devices such as cones, signs, and barricades.
- Communicate effectively with construction crews to coordinate traffic control efforts.
- Monitor traffic patterns and adjust control measures as needed.
- Report any incidents or issues to supervisors promptly.
- Knowledge of quality inspection and control procedures.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while prioritizing safety.
- Strong communication skills to interact with diverse groups of people.
- Understanding of basic electrical components related to traffic control systems.
