Welcome to Fremont Veterinary Hospital! We are a family‑owned and operated veterinary practice located in Canon City. Without corporate oversight, we allow our doctors to practice freely which allows us to meet the needs of our diverse clientele. We have been serving Fremont County and the surrounding areas since 1951.

At this busy, three‑doctor practice, we treat small animals only and offer the latest in hospital design and technology to serve much of Southern Colorado, including Canon City, Penrose, Florence, Westcliffe and Pueblo communities. We are proud to offer a 5,600 square foot facility with digital radiography (dental and general), Idexx in‑house labs (including urinalysis machine), ultrasound and laser therapy (both therapeutic and surgical).

Our well‑established practice with an outstanding reputation here in our community offers an updated facility to provide the best care possible. With long‑standing veterinarians, CVTs and assistants, we are able to provide the community with familiar faces during their pets’ care.

Currently, we offer high‑quality dentistry/oral surgery, ultrasonography and some orthopedic surgeries. We welcome any additional specialty that a new staff member may provide and encourage diversity of skill sets. Our doctors take pride in the quality of medicine we provide and collaborate as a team to discuss patient care for the best outcome for our clients.

Externs will be provided with real‑world experience in a small‑animal general practice while being given one‑on‑one mentorship. You will be taking your own appointments and performing your own surgeries (with DVM assistance). We don’t believe in externs being flies on the wall in this facility.

As an extern, we expect you to dress and behave in a professional manner and to meet the expectations that we have of all team members as outlined in our employee handbook, which will be emailed prior to your externship.

You and your mentor will work to meet the learning objectives as defined by your college program as well as your own personal performance goals. At the end of the externship period, your mentor will provide a written evaluation of your performance as required by your college program.

• Be enrolled in an accredited DVM program.
• You are authorized to work in the United States.
• You must carry professional liability insurance. AVMA PLIT liability insurance is free for all student members of the AVMA. You may apply for this coverage at the AVMA website. Please check to make sure your coverage is current and submit a certificate of coverage with your application.
