Overview
Job Title: Camp Nurse Assistant
FLSA Status: Temporary
- Full Time - non-exempt
Rate of Pay: $400/ weekly
Closing Date: 2/15/2026

Part-Time, Non-Exempt employees are eligible for but not limited to the following:
- Sick leave benefit – 1 day per month, 12 sick days per year (accrual and availability begins at hire; sick time accrual is pro-rated for part-time hours.)
- Attend and participate in evening programs and spiritual activities.
- Maintain a standard of cleanliness in personal grooming and in living quarters.
- Assist with the clean-up of the total camp at the end of each session and at the conclusion of the summer.
- Prepare and deliver the Camp Nurse camp brief at the end of the summer.
- Attend and participate in Staff Orientation.
- When able, attend and participate in all camp wide activities, campfires, staff meetings and staff devotions
- Assist with Camper check-in and check-out.
- Specifically, the health assessment at check in and camper medication distribution on the last day.
- Enforce, and abide by, all camp policies and procedures
- Responsible for the health and well-being of self and campers.
- Maintain the utmost level of safety for staff and campers at all times
- Practice and enforce all camp safety regulations and emergency procedures.
- Maintain group/staff control at specialized group activities so that other support staff can focus on safety.
- Ensure compliance with American Camping Association standards of safety and programmatic conduct at all times.
- Maintain good records of treatment, medication distribution, and other tasks.
- Attend relevant in-service trainings.
- Assist the Camp Nurse in planning and carrying out a total health and safety program for the camp staff according to High Peak Camp health protocols.
- Guide Cabin Leaders in their responsibilities for their camper’s health.
- Assist Camp Nurse as assigned in the following duties:
- Communicate information effectively and accurately to facilitate continuity of care.
- Maintain accountability for nursing judgements and actions.
- Make appropriate decisions that reflect knowledge and good judgement.
- Recognize and demonstrate an awareness of legal responsibility and limitations by functioning within the scope of HPC including, but not limited to:
- Keeping a daily log of all camper and staff treatment.
- Utilizing aseptic technique.
- Recognizing the existence of an infection process.
- Using equipment and supplies in a safe, legal, and economic manner.
- Collecting and filing all camper medical files.
- Compiling a brief at the end of the summer season.
- Complete and file the health log as specified on the front cover within a reasonable time. Each camper that visits the infirmary should be entered into the log, with the following:
- A description of the injury or illness.
- The campers of staff’s cabin, age, and time of visit.
- Indicate treatment given and initial in the columns indicated.
- Log staff members who visit in the same fashion as the campers, using red ink for easy identification in case of a workman’s compensation claim.
- Educate the registration staff regarding lice check procedures, which will be used during camper registration at the beginning of each week.
- Responsible for the medical screening of all campers during the camper registration process, which include logging all medication(s) for each camper, dosage and dispense frequency, log the allergies, infections, medications, and any unusual health history of each camper.
- Administer all medications and treatments according to the physician’s orders.
- If a child is prescribed any mood or behavior altering medication, it is your responsibility to make the Cabin Leader aware of the situation.
- All medications, prescriptions, non-prescriptions, aspirin, vitamins, etc. will be kept in the infirmary for appropriate dispensing times. The camper may keep aerosol inhalers with the Cabin Leader’s notification.
- If any medications are listed by a physician, but not in the possession of the camper, the parent must be contacted and fax a note from the family doctor that the medication has either been discontinued or not needed for the week. If this…
