Department: MHC Forensic Nurse Examiners

Work Schedule:

Full Time, 72.00 hours per pay period (2 weeks)

Shift: Nights
Pay: $35.29 - $54.71 / hour (dependent on experience)
This position is onsite and does not offer a hybrid or remote option.

Summary

Performs forensic examinations of individuals who have been sexually assaulted or otherwise impacted by violence and provides related patient care and referrals.

Responsibilities
  • Takes a medical history and account of the assault from the patient; assesses psychological condition and conducts physical examination.
  • Collects, preserves, and documents all evidence and relevant specimens.
  • Provides direct nursing care of injuries and prophylactic medications; refers to appropriate personnel or facilities as needed.
  • Communicates with victims and families regarding evidence collection, treatment recommendations, and reporting to law enforcement (except in mandatory reporting cases) in a manner that promotes informed decisions.
  • Provides victim advocacy and/or expert testimony in court trials.
  • Performs critical thinking, decisive judgment, and works with minimal supervision in a fast‑paced environment.
Requirements
  • Registered Nurse with state licensure.
  • Graduate of an accredited or state board‑approved Registered/Professional Nursing program and completion of Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner training within 3 months of hire.
  • Minimum 1 year of RN experience or 6 months as an Advanced Practice Nurse (Nurse Practitioner or Certified Nurse Midwife).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer; certification must be valid through the first 60 days of hire.
