Sunflower Wellness is seeking a highly motivated and versatile Environmental Health Safety Specialist to support environmental, health, safety, and operational compliance activities at our chemical manufacturing facility. This role is ideal for candidates with a diverse technical background in hazardous material handling, chemical plant operations, warehouse logistics, and facilities coordination. The ideal candidate is hands-on, detail-oriented, safety-focused, and eager to grow within a leadership-driven EHS culture.
OverviewHazardous Material Handling
- Handle, label, and store hazardous materials and waste in accordance with OSHA, EPA, DOT, and RCRA regulations.
- Prepare and assist with hazardous waste pickups, e-manifests, and drum/container inspections.
- Ensure proper PPE usage, spill response readiness, and chemical compatibility during handling.
- Assist in emergency response planning and execution.
- Receive, inspect, and store raw materials and finished products using forklifts and material handling equipment.
- Maintain warehouse organization and enforce segregation of incompatible materials.
- Manage shipping documentation, BOLs, inventory tracking systems, and staging of outbound waste or product.
- Coordinate with vendors and third-party transporters during deliveries and pickups.
- Assist in preventive maintenance schedules for safety systems (eyewash, showers, ventilation, extinguishers).
- Conduct facility walk-throughs and inspections for hazards, leaks, or unsafe conditions.
- Support contractors and vendors performing work on-site to ensure compliance with permits and safety protocols.
- Perform light maintenance or coordinate repairs of equipment, lighting, and building utilities.
- 2+ years of experience in chemical operations, hazardous material handling, industrial warehousing, or facility maintenance.
- HAZWOPER 40 Hour certification (preferred or required within 6 months).
- Forklift certification (or ability to be certified in-house).
- CDL with Hazmat endorsement preferred.
- Working knowledge of EPA, RCRA, DOT, and OSHA regulations.
- Comfortable working in PPE including respirators, Tyvek suits, and chemical gloves.
- Strong organizational and recordkeeping skills, including use of MS Excel, Word, and inventory software.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating with EHS and Operations teams.
