Job Summary: Fit together and overlay weld metal components using precision Hot Wire GTAW welding equipment including robotic processes in accordance with procedures. Operate manual SMAW, GTAW and GMAW welding equipment as necessary to complete parts. Requires a broad knowledge of welding technology and considerable welding experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Represent Nobel Clad locally
- Follow all safety, environmental, and 5S rules, regulations, and requirements.
- Ability to read, interpret, and work from documents and drawings such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, blueprints, engineering drawings, specifications, and welding procedure specifications (WPS’s)
- Prepare metal surfaces and components for welding by cleaning, cutting, grinding, or fitting parts together, following engineering drawings and specifications.
- Set up, operate, and maintain specialized automated hot wire GTAW (TIG) weld overlay systems, ensuring proper functionality and longevity.
- Continuously monitor the weld overlay process and make real-time adjustments to ensure a clean, defect-free weld in accordance with the job requirements.
- Visually inspect and perform liquid penetrant inspection on completed welds for defects and perform necessary repairs or rework, ensuring all work meets job requirements.
- Use a ruler, scale, protractor, templates, straight edge, plumb line, and micrometers.
- Develop and qualify welding parameters and procedures per ASME Section IX, as needed.
- Must meet production schedules and quality specifications.
- Identify and report material defects and welding problems.
- Maintain inventory of expendables and consumables to support weld operations.
- Perform 5S activities. Clean work area, machines, tools, and equipment.
- Initiate the repair of unsafe equipment and equipment requiring unscheduled periodic maintenance.
- Operate overhead cranes, jibs, forklifts, trucks, and other equipment necessary.
- Required to work other operations as needed .
Supervisory Responsibilities
This job requires no supervisory responsibilities.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED);
- One-year certificate from college or technical school
- Minimum of 5 years of experience as a weld operator performing weld overlay in a production environment.
- Familiarity operating automated hot wire GTAW (TIG) weld overlay systems.
- Experience with performing nickel alloy and stainless-steel weld overlay on pipe and fittings.
