Performs the full range of welding tasks required in the fabrication of structural and miscellaneous metal components. Welders are responsible for interpreting blueprints, operating trade‑specific machinery, and executing quality welds in accordance with project specifications and safety standards. This position is classified into Welder 1, Welder 2, or Welder 3 based on certifications, experience, and demonstrated capabilities.

Role Responsibilities- Operate welding machinery and equipment specific to trade.
- Interpret job orders, cut lists, and blueprints.
- Read and use a tape measure accurately.
- Select the proper machine and sequence of operations.
- Perform welds to required quality and code standards.
- Inspect work and document compliance.
- Operate forklifts and overhead cranes.
- Comply with safety and shop rules.
- Maintain and troubleshoot welding equipment.
- Perform other assignments as directed.
- 3G certified in welding.
- Proficient in basic welds meeting quality standards.
- Ability to perform intermediate math.
- Basic knowledge of weld symbols.
- Follows direction and completes tasks under close supervision.
- All Welder 1 qualifications plus:
- 3‑5 years of welding and metal processing experience.
- Certified in 3G and able to obtain 6G certification.
- Proficient in FCAW and GMAW across multiple transfer modes.
- Can weld light metals and medium‑complexity components.
- Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints.
- Intermediate math skills including some geometry and trigonometry.
- Mastery of weld symbols.
- Mentors Welder 1s.
- Participates in continuous improvement efforts.
- All Welder 2 qualifications plus:
- 5+ years of welding, metal processing, and structural fitting experience.
- Certified in 3G and 6G welding, with SMAW proficiency.
- Able to weld light and heavy structural metals.
- Capable of performing advanced‑complexity welds.
- Strong ability in blueprint reading and layout.
- Advanced math skills including trigonometry and geometry.
- Communicates job status to shop leadership.
- Leads and mentors up to 5 Welders.
- Contributes to lean manufacturing and process improvement initiatives.
Physical Requirements and Accountability
- Work outside, inside, and in dusty, noisy and hazardous areas.
- Work in high places, tight places, confined spaces and/or other adverse locations.
- Climb, balance, squat, kneel and crouch.
- Work in all types of weather.
- Lift, move, and/or carry up to 50 lbs.
