Team Lead Ski Patrol

Join Crested Butte Mountain Resort as a Team Lead Ski Patrol to lead and mentor a skilled ski patrol team.

Job Summary

The Snow Safety Team Lead will assist the Snow Safety Supervisor in creating and implementing daily operational goals with the avalanche hazard mitigation program, coordinating daily weather forecasting and documentation related to snow safety, and ensuring compliance with federal and state agencies regarding explosives licensing, purchase, storage, handling and training. The Team Lead will also assist with managing the boot packing program and ensuring the Crested Butte Snow Safety program aligns with best practices within Vail Resorts and the broader industry.

Job Responsibilities
  • Function as a leader and skiing member of the ski patrol team
  • Assist the Snow Safety Supervisor with creating and implementing a safe and effective avalanche mitigation program
  • Assist in implementing the training program and mentoring snow safety procedures with all members of the patrol
  • Assist with managing the boot packing program, including hiring, performance management, and entering hours in collaboration with the other Team Lead and Snow Safety Supervisor
  • Track and maintain adequate explosives inventory
  • Assist with ensuring compliance with federal and state explosives regulations
  • Maintain a positive work culture with unwavering commitment to constant improvement, safety, mentoring and training
  • Lead efforts to improve safety within Ski Patrol and the resort as a whole, aiming to reduce/eliminate worker and guest injuries
  • Develop future leaders within the scope of this position’s responsibility and increase team responsibility and accountability
  • Assist in all aspects of the Snow Safety Program as needed on a daily and annual basis, including forecasting, data recording, daily route assignments, explosives program administration, training, and mentoring
  • Other duties as assigned
Job Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Colorado EMT or higher level of medical certification with focus in emergency medicine
  • Colorado Type 1 Explosives Permit
  • Basic computer knowledge and organizational skills
  • English speaking, writing and comprehension
  • 21 years of age
  • Experience skiing and related activities in outdoor winter mountain weather
  • Experience with explosives, exposure to noise
  • Equipment used: skis, some power tools, snowmobile
  • Advanced level snowmobile operator
  • Expert Alpine Skiing Ability
Preferred
  • Greater than 6 seasons experience in Ski Patrol with avalanche mitigation duties
  • Pro 1, Pro 2, or equivalent certification
  • Leadership Experience
  • Teaching Experience
  • Advanced Computer Skills

The expected pay range is $34.00/hr – $39.00/hr individual compensation decisions are based on a variety of factors.
