This position is only open to Colorado state residents. New employees to the State will be paid biweekly. There are 26 biweekly pay periods in a year.

Starting base pay for this position is between $2,377.39-$2,614.08 biweekly ($61,812.00 - $67,980.00 annually). This location is eligible for an additional $2000/month housing stipend
, bringing total annual pay to $85,812.00-$91,980

The work unit maintains the Colorado Department of Transportation highway system and facilities to near original conditions using available resources, personnel, equipment and materials to ensure a safe roadway for the traveling public.
About The Position
This Equipment Mechanic IV is a supervisory position in Region 1, Section 9 Maintenance, Empire, Colorado. You will supervise and assist field mechanics, establish work schedules and priorities, and monitor work completion. You will ensure safety and industry workmanship standards are followed in the shop and provide technical assistance, maintain inventory, and prepare reports of shop activities.
Responsibilities- Supervise, coordinate and assist field mechanics on all types of mechanical work, provide guidance and inspect quality of work after completion.
- Rebuild, repair, inspect, diagnose, and maintain heavy and specialized equipment (trucks, loaders, dozers, motor graders, lay down machines, asphalt equipment, snow removal equipment, mowers, attachments).
- Monitor and assign equipment and truck inspections, DOT inspections and annual inspections on seasonal equipment.
- Diagnose defects in motorized equipment, estimate time and materials, order parts, verify billings and invoices for accuracy.
- Perform maintenance on various small engines, pumps and hand tools.
- Keep up to date on current equipment and technical knowledge; work on systems such as air, hydraulics, fuel, coolant, electric and electronics, including major components of power and drive trains.
- Oversee preventative maintenance and ensure compliance with guidelines.
- Monitor SAP notifications and work orders; assist field team with input of time and repair codes into SAP; enter monthly meter readings from State Fleet Management into CDOT systems.
- Coordinate with the shop manager to anticipate equipment and tools needed to keep field equipment operational.
- Assist the shop supervisor in ordering equipment and scheduling vendors; schedule equipment repairs, annual inspections, preventative maintenance, paint/body repairs, new vehicle setup, job assignments, shop space and training for shop personnel.
- Implement and sign Performance Management plans and evaluations; approve leave requests; mediate issues including interpersonal conflicts and informal grievances.
- Assist in conducting monthly safety and general information meetings.
- Other job duties as assigned.
- Primarily 7:00 am – 3:30 pm, Monday-Friday
- Infrequent overtime and travel for meetings and training
- Occasional overnight travel 1-3 times a year throughout Colorado
- Operate CDOT vehicles to test drive equipment
- Respond to emergencies outside regular hours; may work overtime including weekends and holidays
- Some on-call time required; provide a telephone number for emergency contact
- Physical requirements:
lift up to 70 lbs; bend, kneel, climb in/out of trucks; read, understand and follow instructions in English - May work in extreme temperatures; exposure to fumes, odors, gases, dusts
- Must be able to hear and communicate via cell phone and state radio
- Must be able to use computers for daily tasks
- Colorado Commercial Driver's License Class A or B with no restrictions on air brakes
Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights
At least seven (7) years of relevant automotive and heavy equipment repair experience, with at least three (3) years diagnosing and repairing heavy diesel equipment such as 10-ton double-axle snowplows, tractor-trailers, bulldozers, motor graders, paving machines and/or 15' mower tractors. OR a combination of education and experience equal to seven (7) years. Education may include coursework in automotive or diesel equipment or a formal apprenticeship;
