Overview

TEMPORARY POSITION (9 MONTHS OR LESS) – PAYING $18.00 - $19.00 PER HOUR. EMPLOYMENT STARTS 03/08/2026 THROUGH 10/31/2026. This posting is for both Lead and Non Lead Inspector positions.

Description Of Job

Perform boat inspector and decontaminator responsibilities according to state regulations and standard protocols at Antero Reservoir. For Non Lead Inspector: perform boat inspection and decontamination duties at Limon Port of Entry near Limon, Colorado, inspecting boats entering Colorado with respect to invasive species (e.g., zebra/quagga mussels). Provide public outreach on aquatic invasive species by distributing printed material to visitors and returning travelers.

The position reports to the inspection station. Boat inspection training will be provided. Early morning, evening, and weekend work required.

For Lead Inspector: perform boat inspector and decontaminator duties at Limon Port of Entry, Colorado. The site lead will train staff, create schedules, ensure shifts are covered, track time for payroll, resolve staffing and customer issues with the area work lead, and may participate in hiring decisions. Additional responsibilities include quality control, ensuring data entry accuracy, inventory management, basic maintenance of equipment, and public outreach on aquatic invasive species.

Early morning, evening, and weekend work is required.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights

Pursuant to the DNR-120 Fleet and Driving Standards Administrative Directive, any worker expected to drive a State-owned vehicle must maintain a safe driving record and a valid driver license. For compliance with the New Fleet Vehicle Policy, Motor Vehicle Records (MVRs) will be pulled for workers who:

  • Have an assigned State fleet vehicle
  • Are required to operate a vehicle as part of the position
  • Utilize a State fleet vehicle as a pool vehicle
  • Must be 21 years of age or older for Lead Position
  • Must be 16 years of age or older for Non-Lead Position

Lead

  • Good driving record and ability to work weekends, early mornings, and late evenings.
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Excellent customer service experience working with the public.
  • Reliable and timely.
  • Ability to self-motivate and work independently.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • High school diploma.
  • Experience with boats, trailers, power washers, small engines, and/or heavy equipment.
  • Experience with Microsoft Word (Word, Excel, Access).

Non Lead

  • Ability to work weekends, early mornings, and late evenings.
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Excellent customer service experience working with the public is desired.
  • Reliable and timely.
  • Ability to self-motivate and work independently.
