Compensation Range: $48,000-$52,000

Position Summary

Lake County Government in Leadville, CO is seeking a full-time Maintenance Technician for our Public Works Department. This entry-level position is a member of a team that oversees the maintenance and repair of all buildings, facilities, grounds, and parks of Lake County.

Responsibilities
  • Assist in fabricating and constructing park and facilities repairs which may include park shelters, picnic tables, park signs, parking areas, small buildings, remodeling, facilities, painting, and other similar projects
  • Assist in facility and office repairs and maintenance requests which may include moving of office furniture, furniture assembly or repair, lightbulb & smoke alarm battery replacement
  • Seasonal snow removal from County facility sidewalks
  • Operates a variety of heavy and light equipment including mowers, chainsaws, tractors, backhoes, and trash compactors, small snowplows, pickup with snowplow
  • Other routine preventative servicing to ensure equipment and facilities maintain good working order
  • Other small ‘handyman’ construction and maintenance projects as they arise
  • Any additional duties as required.
Supervisory Responsibilities

Requirements
  • High School diploma or GED required supplemented by specialized training in equipment maintenance, park facilities, horticulture, or a related field
  • Must have a Colorado Drivers License
  • One (1) year of experience in a directly related field required
  • Proven experience in the methods, techniques, hand & power tools, and materials used in park maintenance, facility repair and construction, and related vehicle and equipment repair
  • Strong general knowledge of basic electrical wiring, plumbing, masonry, carpentry, welding, small engine, and vehicle mechanics
  • Experience in landscaping practices including lawn, irrigation systems, tree, and shrub care
  • Knowledge of swimming pool mechanics and preventative maintenance
  • Basic HVAC knowledge
  • Ability to lift 50lbs without assistance & more than 50lbs with assistance
  • Must pass pre-employment drug and alcohol testing
  • Preferred bilingual in English and Spanish
Physical Activity & Work Environment

The incumbent will perform work primarily in an indoors office environment. They can expect to sit for long periods of time in front of a computer. They will also perform work outdoors at the Lake County Landfill and on County Roads. The incumbent should be prepared to lift objects up to 100 lbs. as needed but can expect those occurrences to be infrequent.

They may be exposed to chemicals, moving machinery, and loud noises. The incumbent should be able to see both near and far distances and use peripheral vision, with or without assistance from glasses/contacts.

To be prepared for this role, all employees and emergency service function (ESF) leads will attend emergency management trainings and exercises as requested by the Director of Emergency Management. With advanced notification from OEM, employees will make reasonable efforts to attend training events in coordination with other employees and supervisors.
