LocationThis position is located in Canon City. This posting may be used to fill future vacancies at this location.
Type of PositionThis position is Part-Time (20 hrs/week), after hours and/or weekends.
Mental Health Clinician – After HoursThis position provides after-hours mental health care, including crisis assessment, to a special population of inmates housed in the Colorado Department of Corrections with mental illness, intellectual and developmental disabilities and high risk for suicide and self-injury.
- Work with other staff regarding the mental health needs of offenders after normal business hours, and provide direct care in case of psychiatric crisis or emergencies.
- Develop Mental Health treatment plans to serve as the basis for treatment.
- Provide individual and group therapy.
- Perform mental health assessments and interviews to determine progress.
- Update diagnosis and psychiatric needs levels.
- Refer inmates to psychology for more complex psychological assessment.
- Provide information to psychiatry including client history, previous diagnoses, and alternative treatment available.
- Assure both emergency and non-emergency transfer for inmates experiencing acute mental health crisis.
- Contact on-call psychiatric provider for emergency medication needs for offenders.
- Utilize the electronic record to the fullest extent possible.
- Render clinical direction to non-clinical staff in mental health care and treatment of inmates.
- Assure continuity of care for inmates by making appropriate referral and providing necessary information and documentation for transition to receiving units, facilities, or agencies.
- Applicant must possess a valid, active license from the State of Colorado as a Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Psychologist or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist.

- Applicant must have one (1) year of licensed or license candidacy experience, with current valid licensure from the State of Colorado, to include Licensed Social Worker (LSW), Licensed Professional Counselor Candidate (LPCC), Licensed Clinical Social Worker Candidate (SWC) or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist Candidate, and experience must be with the mental health and/or sex offender population.
