Responsibilities
  • Determines strategic direction, goals, and objectives for National Park Service.
  • Responsible for all aspects of management of the park through subordinate staff including planning and programming, public relations, administration, resource management, safety, interpretation, visitor services, and facilities maintenance.
  • Fosters and maintains external relationships and partnerships with community organizations, Native American tribes, elected officials, stakeholders and partners.
  • Builds coalitions internally and with other federal agencies, state and local governments, and non‑profit and private sector organizations to achieve common goals.
  • Ensures compliance with all federal laws and NPS policies, ensuring that the park's financial and other resources are used strategically and effectively to meet NPS objectives.
Conditions of Employment
  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.
  • Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males.
  • Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program.
  • Must satisfy time‑in‑grade requirements for former federal employees and those in the competitive service.
  • Require a valid driver's license and submission of driving records from all states.
  • Must wear a uniform and comply with NPS uniform standards; a uniform allowance will be provided.
  • Expected to work on‑call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime and shift work.
  • May be required to travel overnight up to 5 nights per month; must obtain a government charge card for travel purposes.
  • Required to complete training and maintain a government charge card with travel and/or purchase authority.
  • Subject to a financial disclosure reporting requirement and must complete a new entrant Confidential Financial Disclosure Report (OGE Form 450) within 30 days of appointment.
Probationary Period

All appointees will serve a 1‑year probationary period during which fitness and continued employment will be evaluated. Completion of the probationary period requires written certification of continued employment; otherwise, the appointment terminates.

Qualifications

Experience: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable to GS‑11 in the federal service, including but not limited to supervisory oversight of staff, program oversight, law enforcement, natural or cultural preservation management, community partnership facilitation, communication, project management, or policy development for park operations. Hours per week must be included.

Volunteer

Experience:

Paid and unpaid experience through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, Ameri Corps) and other organizations is creditable.

Education: No substitution of education for experience at the GS‑12 grade level.
