Location: Avondale
Play a pivotal role in supporting Avondale’s executive leadership by providing strategic support to the City Manager and City Council, overseeing complex projects, and acting as a key liaison across departments, elected officials, and the public.
Performs a wide variety of analytical duties and provides complex support to the City Council and City Manager, serving as a communication liaison between the City Council, the City Manager's Office, other City departments, the general public, and external organizations. Conducts independent research studies, prepares reports, and makes recommendations regarding complex administrative projects and emerging concerns. Manages projects and programs at the discretion of City Management.
Work is performed under general direction and requires considerable initiative and independent judgment. Conducts research and manages the response to emerging issues, initiatives, and City Council or City Management topics of interest. This involves working closely with department directors and key department staff to track and report on emerging issues, request follow‑up information, and prepare oral and/or written reports, project briefings, presentations, and statistical analyses.
Knowledgeable about a variety of city issues, policies, programs, and services, and able to state the City’s position on such issues. This includes knowledge of/close working relationships with City Management, department directors, and staff. Exercises considerable judgment related to analyzing issues, identifying city-wide impacts, and coordinating responses on strategies and alternatives for responding to concerns.
Researches and responds to City Council requests for information and public inquiries by facilitating unified communication between members of the City Council, City Management, City staff, and the public.
Writes a wide variety of complex correspondence and documents for internal and external use. Works with City Management and department directors in planning, organizing, coordinating, and implementing programs and initiatives.
Maintains Council members’ calendars and ensures Council members are aware of details for all relevant City meetings. Schedules meetings, ribbon cuttings, events, and appointments for the Mayor and City Council members. Makes travel arrangements, secures meeting space, audio‑visual equipment, catering, and/or other logistical items, and prepares and distributes meeting agendas and minutes as needed.
Prepares speaking points, presentations, and proclamations as requested by City Council and City Management.
Attends City Council meetings after business hours. Represents Council members and the City Manager’s Office at internal and external meetings, events, and conferences. May travel in‑state and out‑of‑state for one or more days per trip in support of Council members and City Management.
Reconciles and manages Council budgets, procurement, and donation requests.
Plans and executes the annual Citizens Leadership Academy civic engagement program and the annual Avondale Ambassador civic engagement program by establishing the program budget, schedule, and marketing materials, attending and leading all classes after business hours, and managing participant communications.
Plans and executes events and regular external meetings for the City Manager’s office, including the Interfaith Partnership Meeting, Coffee with the City Council events, and the annual State of the City event, by establishing program budgets, schedules, marketing materials, and logistical details, and managing attendee communications.

Bachelor’s Degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, or a closely related field. Master’s Degree in Public Administration or a closely related field preferred.
Three (3) or more years of professional-level administrative experience.
An equivalent combination of education and job‑related experience may be considered on a year‑for‑year basis.
Valid Arizona Operator’s Driver’s License.
