Step into a key support role within the Town’s planning team. As a Planning Technician, you will assist in preparing planning documents, serve as the first point of contact for developers and the public, conduct routine plan reviews, and provide day-to-day support for professional planning staff. In this role, you’ll regularly interact with residents, landowners, developers, Town staff, the Planning Commission, Town Council, and advisory boards, helping them understand and navigate the Town of Erie’s Comprehensive Plan and Municipal Code.
This position offers a hands‑on introduction to municipal planning while contributing to the Town’s ongoing development and community initiatives. - This position is eligible to work remotely two days a week and required to work in‑office three days a week.

- Full Salary Range: $30.91/hour - $40.49/hour
- Anticipated Hiring Range: $30.91/hour - $35.70/hour

Duties and Responsibilities- Assists developers and the public and serves as the first point of contact and assistance. Handles routine matters as needed and refers more complex items to the appropriate staff person.
- Processes and reviews Land Use Applications. Coordinates staff, and referral agencies for multi‑department reviews.
- Reviews Architectural, Wireless Communication, Accessory Structures, Fence and Sign Permits for compliance with standards and regulations.
- Acts as liaison with other public and private agencies. Confers with property owners and developers to devise and recommend arrangements of land and physical facilities for residential, commercial, industrial, and community uses.
- Assists Building Division and permitting staff with review of routine building plans as needed such as affirming site plan and zoning compliance for various types of building permits.
- Serves as recording secretary for Planning Commission and may assist with Board of Adjustment and Appeals, and other standing Ad Hoc Committees as assigned. This will require attendance in evening meetings twice a month.
- Conducts field work, site inspections, and surety monitoring as needed and documents work sites photographically.
- May assist with review of Temporary Use Permits, Home Occupation/Business Licenses, and other licensing as needed. Assists with preparation and maintenance of departmental records and reports for meetings, notices, agendas, and other related matters.
- Performs related work as required and assigned.
- May research planning documents for the Town, including but not limited to the Town Comprehensive Plan, Unified Development Code and Design Guidelines.
- May research governmental measures affecting land use, public utilities, community facilities, and housing and transportation to control and guide community development and renewal.
- Compiles and analyzes data as assigned.
- High School Diploma or equivalent (GED)
- At least three years planning, building, development review, and/or administrative background, customer service experience
A combination of education and experience may be considered.
Desired Qualifications- Bachelor’s degree in planning, Landscape Architecture, Urban Design, Public Administration or a related field.
- Municipal, city or local government experience
- If the employee will be bedriving, the Town will require a valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record. A motor vehicle record will be pulled through the background check.
- As a Planning Commission Secretary, you will be expected to attend Planning Commission evening meetings, twice a month. Additional meetings may come up occasionally.
