AboutThe Role
The Automation Engineer is responsible for plant process control system (PCS) specification, application programming, testing, commissioning and maintenance. The incumbent applies the PCS to improve plant performance including rate, availability, OEE, and MTBF. Other responsibilities include facilitating use of the PCS as a resource for Process, Maintenance, Production, Shipping, Environmental and Quality Departments.
This position is eligible for a $5,000 sign‑bonus.
What You'll Accomplish- Manage and maintain all process‑related hardware, software and documentation within the confines of the control room and server room.
- Support the maintenance and operation of plant electrical systems and troubleshoot electrical and control‑system problems.
- Working knowledge of PLC programming and process control systems (Control Logix, PLC‑5, and SLC 500). Experience with instrumentation, motors, starters and VFDs, communication networks (Modbus, Modbus Plus, Ethernet, Control Net, Device Net, etc.).
- Prevent downtime due to faults; continuously improve to extend the life of existing PCS and facilitate eventual upgrade or replacement.
- Program Rockwell Control Logix PLCs, Factory Talk View SE HMIs, Plant PACs, and VMware Network Virtualization.
- Support installation of new plant equipment from conception to operation and assure integration of new systems into plant operations.
- Use the PCS to provide information for management or other reporting functions (high degree of involvement with environmental reporting and permit compliance).
- Maintain a standard set of specifications for consistent application related to modifications or additions.
- Maintain, organize, prepare, review and revise drawings as required.
- Extensive knowledge of instrumentation, high‑level control and expert systems, PLC control and machinery interlocking systems, variable speed drives and motor control systems.
- Identify improvement opportunities to maximize equipment life cycle and efficiency.
- Work closely with the Electrical Supervisor and Process Engineers to analyze, improve and document all aspects of operations.
- Demonstrate a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to health, safety and environmental policies in all work environments and areas. Promote a culture of safety and exhibit these behaviors.
- Education: Bachelor's degree
- Field of Study Preferred: Electrical Engineering or similar field
- Required
Work Experience:
1‑3 years - Required Computer and Software
Skills:
SAP, AutoCAD, VMware, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) - Self‑starter / highly motivated team player.
- Successful candidates must adhere to all safety protocols and proper use of Amrize-approved Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including respirators. Employees required to wear respirators must be clean‑shaven where the respirator seal meets the face in order to pass the qualitative and quantitative fit test.
