WireCenter Engineer Responsibilities
A Wire Center Engineer’s job is to provide expertise the outside plant facilities for order or customer‑driven work, visit site and design a plan of action for each project that’s in their assigned wire center area. The engineer should be able to customize a solution to each of our customer’s requirements to satisfy requests for service.
Proficiencies and use of the following programs/systems to perform duties and learn any new system implemented by the company.- Fireworks, Bidmaster, ARMOR, Forte, WFMT, Work Management System, JDS, NDS, Ready for Service, NBIE, TIRKS, Site Tracker, Access‑FPT Reservation, ACCESS‑GPON, NROC, Cosmo, Google Maps, SAP GUI / SAP Portal, L‑FACS, Bart, Excel, All Microsoft Programs, Outlook, TEAMS (Conference Calls, training), Chrome, Google Maps, municipality mapping systems for ROW.
The Wire Center Engineer will assist/support in every wire center assigned for Road Moves, Fiber to the Tower (FT3) customer billing (BART), Relocations, POTS‑HSI orders (including GPON capacity adds). They will interact with both internal and external customers and work towards service resolution, working in concert with construction CPAs, splicing supervisors, SROs, JRM’s, JFM’s for each wire center.
Daily tasks start with going into ARMOR and checking for held orders to find service/terminal assignments, developing cost quotes if build is required, triggering quotes through BART to customers, and submitting requests for funding from finance through appropriate process/systems.
Duties include using select systems to assess and resolve all held orders, pulling work orders in Fireworks, preparing field notes, working in NDS to provide the scope of work needed, and sending to ECM for designs. The engineer issues jobs in Fireworks/Bidmaster/JDS, completes provisioning steps in WFMT, Site Tracker, and routes the job to construction/splicing forces, JFM, CPA, and splicing through JDS.
For BAU and splitter jobs, they complete F1 or MF1 forms and submit in Work Management System. They issue splitter add and BAU jobs after determining the design and MNEM are accounted for. They learn and understand contracts and NEWCO/RUS units required, attend meetings, site meetings, gather documentation for research and assessment for job planning, evaluate permitting requirements/cost, quality check all phases of work package design and pricing for accuracy before a work package is issued to construction, and manage in‑flight changes to scope of project.
This role will continue to expand as areas of responsibility increase. Ongoing training and understanding of the wire center engineering role continue to be the focus. The goal is to utilize skills acquired and provide a streamlined process to cover existing team members during vacation, injuries, and illness, ensuring work loads remain manageable.
Pay commensurate with experience; $52,000 - 66,560. Health, dental, vision insurance available, 401K, and paid time off offered.
