About The Role

The Estimator I is an integral part of the electrical construction process and ensures competitiveness, profitability, and growth. The Estimator I is responsible for cost estimates for various electrical construction projects.

Since 1912, Sturgeon Electric Company, Inc., a subsidiary of MYR Group, Inc., has provided comprehensive electrical construction services to clients throughout the western U.S. Sturgeon Electric has two divisions, offering both power line construction and commercial/industrial electrical construction, making it a full service electrical provider.

Sturgeon Electric’s Commercial and Industrial (C&I) electrical construction division specializes in large-scale commercial electrical projects. It offers pre‑construction services, in‑house pre‑fabrication capabilities, and Building Information Modeling (BIM) capabilities, and performs projects under Integrated Lean Project Delivery methods.

Essential Functions
  • Bring innovation to the team through collaboration and continuous education.
  • Review proposal specifications and drawings to determine scope of work and required contents of estimate.
  • Prepare estimates by calculating complete takeoff of scope of work and input into computer estimating system.
  • Review estimates for accuracy and completeness.
  • Request quotes from suppliers for equipment and materials.
  • Identify qualified suppliers/subcontractors and solicit quotes. Review quotes for completeness with plans and specifications.
  • Itemize and quantify all incidentals necessary in preparing the bid packages including sub‑contract work, equipment rental, tools, supplies, and schedule.
  • Provide to the Chief Estimator a detailed review of scope, technical requirements, and pricing for the estimated bid package.
  • After the successful bid at project turnover, meet with Project Management to fully explain the estimate, scope of work, quotes and offer aspects for the successful transition of the project.
  • Responsible for the timely completion of all client‑required documents.
  • Draft scope letter inclusions, exclusions, and clarifications for estimates using an A3 format.
  • Bring your expertise into the bid process and proposal by detailing how we will build each project.
  • Maintain files of working documents as back‑up for estimate figures.
  • The duties and responsibilities are intended to describe the general nature and scope of work being performed by this position. This is not a complete listing and other duties will be assigned based on the position’s role within the business unit.
  • Regular and predictable attendance.
  • Essential functions of the position are to be performed in a Company‑designated office, field location, or other remote location.
  • Understand and comply with the Company’s Code of Business Conduct and Ethics Policy and other industry‑specific professional and ethical standards, if applicable.
Qualifications

Minimum 1-3 years of Electrical Estimating experience.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Knowledgeable of current local and national electrical codes (N.E.C.)
  • Good knowledge of local electrical codes
  • Ability to read and understand civil, architectural, structural, mechanical, etc. plans and specifications to include blueprints, proposals and other relevant documents
  • Knowledgeable of electrical materials and methods of installation
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications and estimating software
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, verbal, written, and communication skills
  • Team player mentality
  • Self‑driven with the ability to stay on‑task for extended periods of time while working independently
What We Offer Compensation & Benefits
  • Salary $75,000-$110,000/year
    • Commensurate with experience, paid weekly. Posted salary ranges are made in good faith. MYR Group reserves the right to adjust ranges depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate.
