Overview
The Safety Coordinator is involved in developing, implementing, and continuously improving company-wide safety programs to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as internal policies. This position works independently and collaboratively with field and management teams to proactively identify risk, lead safety training initiatives, conduct audits and investigations, and influence a culture of safety and excellence across all operations.
Responsibilities- Help develop, implement, and manage company-wide safety policies, procedures, and systems in alignment with regulatory standards and company goals.
- Evaluate existing safety programs and make recommendations for improvements based on current regulations, incident trends, and operational feedback.
- Lead and conduct incident investigations, root cause analyses, and corrective action development. Present findings to field and management.
- Conduct comprehensive jobsite audits, trend analyses, and hazard assessments; report findings and recommend corrective actions.
- Review various safe work permits (Hot Work, LO/TO, T&E, etc.).
- Eliminate potential jobsite-related risks and promote safety awareness among employees.
- Provide expert guidance to field leadership on high-risk operations such as confined space entry, excavation, trenching, and rigging/lifting.
- Monitor and analyze leading and lagging indicators (e.g., TRIR, near misses) and generate reports for executive leadership.
- Develop and maintain emergency action plans and oversee preparedness drills.
- Actively participate in cross-departmental safety planning and resource allocation.
- Review subcontractor safety plans and conduct prequalification assessments.
- Maintain safety documentation and ensure accurate recordkeeping in accordance with OSHA requirements.
- Maintain daily journal documenting work activities and interactions.
- Design and deliver training programs, toolbox talks, and onboarding safety orientations; ensure training is updated to reflect regulatory or procedural changes.
- Promote and adhere to company safety protocols and regulations.
- Support and exemplify the company’s mission and values in all interactions.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Minimum of 2 years of safety-related work experience within a construction or oil & gas environment.
- Strong knowledge of OSHA 1926, 1910 and PSM standards.
- Experience in construction excavation safety is required.
- Current First Aid/ CPR is preferred.
- Background in energy, utilities, or comparable construction industry is required.
- Pipeline construction experience preferred.
- Safety certification is highly desirable (CSP, ASP, CHST, etc).
- In-depth knowledge of OSHA, DOT, PHMSA and other applicable safety regulations.
- OSHA 10hr and 30hr certification is preferred.
- Demonstrated experience managing safety programs and independently resolving complex safety issues.
- Ability to make sound decisions and recommendations with limited oversight.
- Strong verbal and written communications skills with the ability to influence and train employees at all levels.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and digital safety tracking/reporting systems.
- Bilingual in Spanish is a plus.
- Ability to sit at a desk and use a computer for extended period of time.
- Ability to operate a computer, keyboard, mouse, phone, and other standard office equipment.
- Ability to lift and carry items such as files, boxes, or office supplies (typically up to 20 lbs).
- Must be able to wear and operate the required personal protective equipment (PPE), such as hard hats, safety glasses, and gloves.
