RE-1 Valley School District is seeking a compassionate and reliable Resource Para educator to support students receiving special education services.
The ideal candidate is patient, supportive, and committed to helping students succeed academically and socially.
Reporting To: Building Principal, Classroom Teachers and Director of Student Services
Salary: $16.56/hour (depending on experience) on Classified Hourly Salary Schedule
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Work Calendar: 165 days
FTE: 1.0
Week: Full-time with benefits; 4-day school week (Tuesday - Friday)
Position SummaryThe Resource Para educator assists certified staff in providing instructional and behavioral support to students with disabilities. The para educator works with students individually or in small groups to support academic progress, reinforce instruction, and help students develop independence and appropriate classroom behaviors.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Instructional Support:
Assist the special education teacher with implementing instructional activities aligned with IEP goals; work with students individually or in small groups to reinforce academic concepts; support students in accessing grade-level curriculum; assist with accommodations and modifications for assignments and assessments. - Student Support:
Support students with organization, task completion, and engagement; reinforce positive behavior and classroom expectations; assist with behavior intervention plans when needed. - Classroom Support:
Assist with preparation of instructional materials and resources; supervise students during instructional activities as directed by the teacher; maintain a structured and supportive learning environment. - Data Collection & Documentation:
Assist in collecting data on student progress toward IEP goals; maintain accurate records as directed by the teacher. - Collaboration:
Work collaboratively with teachers, specialists, and administrators; participate in meetings or training as assigned; communicate student concerns or progress to supervising staff.
- Hold an Associate’s or higher degree.
- Demonstrated aptitude for the work to be performed.
- Experience working with children or youth.
- Successfully pass the Work Keys test for Reading Information, Mathematics and Business Writing.
- Experience working with students with disabilities.
- Knowledge of behavior support strategies.
- Experience in a school or classroom setting.
- Work effectively with students with diverse learning needs.
- Basic understanding of instructional support strategies.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding student information.
- Follow directions and work under teacher supervision.
Physical Requirements
- School classroom and resource room environments.
- Frequent interaction with students, teachers, and staff.
- Active supervision of students throughout the school day.
- Ability to move throughout school building and classroom.
- Ability to lift up to 30 pounds; may require assisting students with mobility or other support needs.
