We’re looking for a reliable, enthusiastic, and creative Outdoor Recreation Instructor to lead a variety of youth and adult activities that bring energy, imagination, and adventure to our summer lineup. From hitting the trails to leading hands‑on outdoor experiences, you’ll help create positive, lasting memories for participants ages 6+ across several unique programs.
What You’ll Lead- Park Discovery Days – Weekly park adventures filled with exploration, games, and outdoor fun
- Youth Hiking Club – Nature walks, exploration, and environmental education
- Teen Hiking Club – Challenging hikes, team building, and connection
- Adult Hiking Club – Scenic hikes combining fitness, fresh air, and community
- Adult Trail Walking – Weekly scenic walks for fresh air, light fitness, and connection
- Park Discovery Days
- Fridays from 9am-12pm- 05/22, 05/29, 06/12, 06/26, 07/10, 07/24, 08/07
- Hiking Club (youth and teen)- Wednesdays from 9am-12pm
- Youth: 06/03, 06/10, 07/01, 07/08, 08/05, 08/12
- Teen: 06/17, 07/15
- Adult Hiking Club
- Saturdays from 9am-1pm- 06/07, 07/25, 08/29
- Adult Trail Walking
- Sundays from 9am-1pm- 05/17, 05/24, 05/31, 06/07, 06/14, 06/21, 06/28, 07/12, 07/19, 07/26, 08/02, 08/09, 08/16, 08/23, 08/30
- Plan and lead engaging, age‑appropriate activities for Park Discovery Days and Hiking Clubs.
- Create a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment for all participants.
- Supervise and manage groups of 6 to 17 youth and adult participants in outdoor activities.
- Facilitate themed camps and hiking outings with confidence and enthusiasm.
- Communicate clearly with parents, participants, and TRPR staff.
- Ensure proper setup and cleanup of activity spaces and equipment.
- Monitor participant behavior and safety, addressing any issues calmly and appropriately.
- Maintain attendance records and report any incidents or injuries according to TRPR protocols.
- Adapt activities as needed to accommodate different skill levels, interests, and weather conditions.
- Serve as a positive role model, promoting teamwork, creativity, and respect among participants.
- Follow all district policies, procedures, and safety guidelines.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Recreation Coordinator or supervisor.
Skills & Qualifications
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Current CPR & First Aid certification from the American Red Cross or the ability to obtain such certification prior to employment start date.
- Previous experience working with children or teens in a camp, classroom, or recreational setting.
- Strong leadership and group management skills.
- Creative, energetic, and enthusiastic about engaging youth and adult in both structured and unstructured activities.
- Comfortable working outdoors in a variety of weather conditions and on uneven terrain (especially for Hiking Club).
- Excellent communication skills with children, parents, and team members.
- Ability to work independently while maintaining responsibility for group safety and program flow.
- Basic understanding of first aid and emergency response procedures.
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs and be physically active for extended periods.
