Mancos School District, nestled in southwest Colorado's Four Corners region between Durango and Cortez, is a small, diverse rural district serving approximately 500 PK-12 students. Responsibilities

Responsible for developing healthy students and community: District Elementary Teacher is a “designer of learning” who moves beyond a traditional approach to create an active, engaging learning environment. The teacher will work closely with colleagues to facilitate immersive learning that connects core subjects to real-world challenges, guiding students to investigate, critique, and create. By acting as a mentor and coach, the teacher provides the scaffolding and feedback necessary for students to meet and exceed grade‑level standards and produce high-quality work.

Through data‑informed instruction, the teacher consistently assesses progress to ensure every student is supported in reaching their full potential.

The Elementary Teacher is one of two classroom teachers on the grade‑level team.

Essential Duties
  • Utilize effective teaching practices to teach the adopted curriculum for assigned grades and subjects so that students attain the adopted grade/course expectations and standards. Modify and tailor the curriculum as necessary to address individual student differences, learning styles, and student abilities while ensuring access to grade‑level standards. Instruct with district‑adopted materials and utilize supplemental classroom materials, media, and teaching appropriate for assigned levels and subjects.
  • Incorporate and adhere to an inquiry‑based, project‑based learning approach, when appropriate, providing students with real‑world, hands‑on experiences to enhance their understanding of new concepts and allow for productive struggle.
  • Foster a safe and respectful classroom environment that cultivates a love of learning and supports student success through effective behavior management and social‑emotional development strategies.
  • Exercise open and respectful communication with families, co‑workers, supervisors, and other school staff.
  • Create and keep records on attendance, accidents, incidents, and other noteworthy events in accordance with licensing guidelines and program policies.
  • Demonstrate a growth mindset by engaging in top‑tier professional development and actively contributing to the evaluation process through goal setting, reflection, and the adoption of innovative strategies.
  • Attend parent conferences and project‑based learning exhibitions.
  • Demonstrate content knowledge and educational best practices to support student learning.
