Substitute Paraprofessional Job Description
Prospect Ridge Academy is seeking caring, dependable, and student-focused Substitute Paraprofessionals to support students and staff across our school community. Substitute Paraprofessionals play an important role in ensuring students receive the academic, behavioral, and social-emotional support they need throughout the school day. The Substitute Paraprofessional is responsible for supporting students' needs for the duration of the assignment. This position requires maintaining classroom routines, fostering positive relationships, and collaborating with students, parents, teachers, and staff to achieve the goals outlined in the Prospect Ridge Academy Mission Statement

Substitute Paraprofessionals have the opportunity to select assignments in alternate areas of the school, such as the Kitchen, Health Room, Office, Library, Lunch/Recess, and Classroom
. These assignments may be accepted after hiring, once the individual has completed appropriate training in each area of interest.
- Work with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of materials or skills initially introduced and outlined by certified staff.
- Model and foster independent thinking, creative problem‑solving, and abstract reasoning.
- Show empathy and understanding of students while holding students accountable.
- Communicate consistently and effectively with students, parents, and colleagues.
- Perform assigned supervision of students during lunch periods, play periods, and on field trips.
- Demonstrate ethical behavior and maintain the confidentiality of student information in the school environment and community.
- Develop cooperative partnerships with colleagues and students based on mutual respect.
- Facilitate the resolution of problems that might arise with students.
- Follow policies established by the Prospect Ridge Academy Board of Directors, Adams 12 School District, and Colorado State‑mandated school guidelines, except where PRA has received waivers.
- Complete other duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Interest in children and education.
- Commitment to the implementation of Character Education and Positive Behavior System.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a school team.
- Ability to read, write, and interpret various documents such as rules, policies, expectations, agreements, rubrics, scope and sequence documents, and assessment documents.
- Ability to understand and carry out instructions given in written, oral, or diagram form.
- Ability to deal with problems involving several variables in a variety of situations.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to coordinate tasks effectively.
- Strong interpersonal and customer service skills while working with a diverse population.
- Ability to work with limited supervision and demonstrate initiative.
- Ability and skill to use sound judgment as determined by the specific situation.
- The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Provide backup assistance and coverage for other areas as needed.
- Work is occasionally performed outside with possible exposure to extreme temperatures.
- Work hours may occasionally be extended.
