Crystal River Elementary is looking for a full-time (37.5 hours per week) Special Education Paraprofessional.
DefinitionUnder the direction of a principal or assistant principal, Paraprofessionals assist the classroom teacher, special education teacher, or provider with the supervision and instruction of students according to the student’s IEP.
Supervision Received and ExercisedReceives direct supervision from the preschool director, principal, or assistant principal.
Receives daily direction from the classroom teacher, special education teacher, or special service provider.
- Support the teacher in all areas of the classroom, including instruction and classroom management.
- Assist with enforcing class rules and expectations to maintain a productive learning environment.
- Cover the class when the teacher is assisting another student or is out of the classroom.
- Help the teacher enforce expectations for appropriate classroom behavior and, if needed, provide clear consequences for inappropriate behavior.
- Provide adequate supervision of students at all times; escort, assist, and supervise students in hallways, lunchroom, playgrounds, outside areas, and school assemblies.
- Assist in proctoring tests.
- Help the teacher prepare and organize instructional materials.
- Conduct small‑group and individual instruction according to the teacher’s lesson plans.
- Support students with routine classroom housekeeping responsibilities.
- Report to work on time and accurately record time worked.
- Monitor student progress and communicate progress to students, parents, teachers, and administrators.
- Administer medical support (e.g., tube feeding, toileting, diapering) under supervision.
- Adapt classroom work under the direction of the teacher or special service provider/case manager.
- Implement plans to meet the student’s social and daily living skills under the case manager’s guidance.
- Implement instructional programs in accordance with the IEP under teacher direction.
- Monitor individual students in the classroom, library, hallways, playground, or other outside areas.
- Knowledge of classroom management and basic knowledge of Standards Based Education.
- Experience with children having special health care needs and age‑appropriate activities.
- Understanding of stages of child development.
- Good command of English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
- Familiarity with modern office procedures, methods, and basic computer skills.
- Ability to perform clerical duties such as filing and copying.
- Work efficiently with a service‑oriented attitude in stressful situations with constant interruptions.
- Effectively manage time and multiple responsibilities.
- Work independently in the absence of supervision.
- Operate and use modern office equipment, including a computer and various software packages.
- Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with all stakeholders.
- Monitor and record student data.
- High school diploma or equivalent is required; high qualification requires passing the paraprofessional test or possessing an associate’s degree in any field.
Employee regularly works inside with moderate noise levels. Frequently required to sit, walk, and stand. Occasional lifting of 25 lbs or less.
SSN paraprofessional typically needs to lift and move individuals weighing up to 50 lbs on a regular basis, with potential to lift heavier weights using lifting equipment such as a Hoyer lift, depending on student needs.
