20‑25 hours, Monday‑Friday, 172‑day work calendar
Assists teachers in delivering the educational program for students, including instruction, behavior management, record‑keeping, safety, and communication. Provides direct and indirect services to students with disabilities under the supervision of an administrator and a special education teacher.
Responsibilities- Interpret and follow teacher directions.
- Assist students with classroom assignments during independent work or workstations.
- Reinforce learning of material or skills prepared by the teacher with individual students or groups.
- Collect and prepare materials needed for lessons.
- Maintain student records and daily documentation.
- Enforce discipline procedures in all educational settings under the supervisor’s directions.
- Support medical, health, or behavior needs of students as instructed.
- Administer medication and provide first aid as required.
- Assist in all aspects of personal hygiene.
- Correct assignments, enter data, copy, and perform clerical tasks as assigned.
- Participate in professional development sessions.
- Alert principal or teacher to any problems and special information about individual students.
- Interact effectively with students, co‑workers, parents, staff, and administration.
- Maintain ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students.
- Maintain daily attendance and punctuality.
- Attend work consistently and punctually.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Basic understanding of the needs of children.
- Ability to relate effectively to children of all ages and with varied academic and behavioral needs.
- Patience, compassion, caring, and a helpful relationship with children.
- Basic computer skills: word processing (Google Docs or similar), internet searching, and email skills.
- Professional communication skills, both written and oral, including active listening.
- Ability to physically lift up to 50 lbs., bend, lift, sit on the floor, run short distances, and assist physically active students.
- Emotional maturity and stability required for the specialized work involved.
- Initiative and insight to anticipate problem situations and respond accordingly.
- Ability to take directions, work with minimal supervision, and follow policies and practices.
$15.45 per hour.
