Overview

Bayfield High School is seeking a full‑time Transitions Program teacher to work with our High School team. The 18‑21 Transitions Program offers specialized programming for students 18 to 21 years of age who have completed the minimum requirements necessary for completion of their high school diploma/certificate. The program curriculum is transition focused, community‑based instruction. This program is not designed to provide direct instruction in core academic areas such as reading, writing, math or science.

The transitions program strives to incorporate core academic skills into functional, real life, hands‑on experiences within the community.

Bayfield School District is located in the mountains of Southwest Colorado and is a short drive to Purgatory Resort, Wolf Creek Ski Area, and historic Durango. La Plata County is a world‑class environment for outdoor enthusiasts with miles of trails for hiking and biking, wild rivers for rafting, breathtaking lakes for fishing and boating, and winter ski opportunities to complete 12‑month of recreation.

Qualifications
  • Currently hold a Colorado teaching license with appropriate endorsement (or CDE licensure application in process)
  • Completed and submitted BSD online application
  • Inspire and work collaboratively with staff members and the community
  • Commit to the district vision of Each Student, Each Day:
    Wolverine Way
  • Maintain a valid Colorado driver’s license
  • Submit fingerprints for a criminal background check
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Coordinate services with adult/community supports for individuals in the program so there is a seamless transition upon completion of the program
  • Provide instruction directly related to the functional life skills necessary for the greatest level of independence, academic success, competitive work, positive relationships, and community involvement
  • Positively impact student achievement, using appropriate instructional strategies and strong knowledge of the appropriate curriculum and content area
  • Use relevant technology to support and differentiate instruction
  • Understand, appreciate and make accommodations for student diversity
  • Participate in professional development for continuous learning
  • Work with families in a partnership role
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues and community
  • Follow State legal requirements and District and building policies and procedures
  • Perform any other related duties as assigned
