Cal-Wood Education Center is a non-profit bringing kids and families together with nature, driven by outstanding environmental education programming. We are located in a 1,200-acre scenic mountain setting 15 miles northwest of Boulder in Jamestown, Colorado.
Cal-Wood is seeking energetic, adaptable and positive applicants for an exciting and rewarding position leading evening environmental education programs: night hikes, campfires, and indoor science or team building programs. Individuals may also be invited to train and serve as a weekend family camp instructor or a weekday substitute field instructor, leading team building, hands‑on science education and outdoor recreation. Position starts as soon as possible and runs through May 22, 2026, with the possibility to continue in the fall.
Responsibilities Include:- Facilitate dinners
- Lead evening programs such as night hikes, campfires, and indoor team building or science programs. 3.5 hour gig, 5:30-9:00 pm Mon-Thurs. You can work 1-4 evenings/week.
- Optional:
Work occasional weekends as a family camp instructor (Saturday-Sunday, includes overnight). Potential to also assist with weekday outdoor education programs with school groups as a substitute field instructor. No overnight supervision necessary. 1-3 day gigs available. - Training is provided in hosting campfires, leading night hikes, facilitating meals, and conducting indoor science programs.

- Strong desire and ability to work effectively with students from a variety of backgrounds and ages
- Spanish fluency preferred
- Ability to be loud, fun and silly with a large student audience during campfires
- Reliable and punctual, with strong communication skills
- Experience working with kids
- Experience with group management and risk management
- Ability to pass background checks
- Ability to hike up to 2 miles on uneven terrain, lift heavy objects (up to 50 lbs for short periods of time), and maintain a positive attitude outdoors in all weather conditions
- Current First Aid/CPR certification or willingness to get certified required (Wilderness First Aid (WFA) or Wilderness First Responder (WFR) certifications a plus)
- Must have reliable vehicle (ideally 4WD/AWD) that can handle dirt roads and snow
- $21/hour (paid every two weeks)
- Meals provided when working programs
- Paid sick time (1 hr sick time accrued per 30 hrs worked)
