Job Description

Under the direction of the Program Director for Dental Hygiene, the Dental Assistant is responsible for providing support in the CMC Oral Health Clinic through chairside assisting. The primary role is to support the general dentists delivering care in the dental hygiene educational oral health clinic. Secondary is to support the dental hygiene program in the oral health clinic. The Dental Assistant opens the clinic, prepares the patient for treatment, assists the dentist in performing general dentistry procedures, prepares materials and equipment for treatment and has them ready for the dentist’s use, takes radiographs, and assists with laboratory work.

The dental assistant may also perform other related work such as making appointments, answering the phone, managing supplies, submitting dental billing, and managing laundry needs for the entire clinic.

Must be able to communicate effectively and build positive relationships with all dental staff, administrative staff, and community agency personnel. Evenings and weekends are required. This is a part‑time position limited to 28 hours per CMC workweek, which runs Saturday through Friday.

Qualifications

Education and experience sufficient for the rigors of the position. Examples may include a high school diploma or equivalent and one year experience as a dental assistant or equivalent dental assisting education and experience that will provide the necessary knowledge, skill, and abilities to perform the functions of the position. Position requires advanced technical knowledge and skills. Proof of completing a radiation safety course preferred.

Current CPR certification is required.

OSAP‑DALE Foundation Dental Infection Prevention and Control Certificate preferred or ability to obtain within 3 months required. Experience in supporting a dental or dental hygiene clinic and demonstrated competence in higher education administration preferred.

Special skills or abilities: knowledge of dental health education, ability to complete forms accurately, and use sound judgment. Calm disposition, ability to work easily with people. Requires extreme flexibility and cooperation with the dentist, chairside assisting, dental terminology knowledge, experience with a 3D scanner and general dentistry procedures, familiarity with medical terminology and aseptic technique, ability to communicate effectively in Spanish and English, willingness to learn and grow in a fast‑paced dental environment.

Must have a deep ethical foundation, extreme professionalism, love of dentistry, education, and students. Must exhibit sensitivity to diverse backgrounds and disabilities, and strict adherence to FERPA and HIPAA laws.

Responsibilities: confirming and scheduling patients, collecting patient payments, making follow‑up calls for treatment and recall, checking and responding to daily emails, assisting with other office duties as requested.

Benefits

Hiring pay rate $21.63 per hour. Benefits include retirement contribution, annual and sick time, mental health resources, and tuition benefit. CMC uses a wage progression compensation model that accounts for skill and experience.

Position anticipated to close on January 14, 2026 or until filled.

Work Conditions

Constant sitting, occasional walking, standing; occasional handling objects, pushing/pulling; frequent reaching with hands/arms, finger movements; occasional lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs. Constant written and oral communication, ability to reason and analyze, perform calculations occasionally. Work performed using a computer and standard office equipment daily.
