Hike master (2026) – YMCA of the Rockies

The Hike master leads groups of 2 to 20 miles on nature walks, engages guests in conversation for long periods, and provides customer service and administrative support at the hiking desk.

• Safely lead groups on hikes and nature walks of 2 to 20 miles in various weather conditions
• Engage in conversation for long periods and keep people involved and educated
• Sign up to lead hikes by the weekly deadline
• Attend and participate in weekly Hike master staff meetings
• Know and adhere to hiking policies and procedures set forth by YMCA of the Rockies
• Answer questions and give guidance and hiking suggestions at the hiking desk in Mountain Center
• Use a computer to assist guests in enrolling for guided hikes and enter data before and after hikes
• Handle cash/credit cards and use a cash register to record deposits for borrowed hiking equipment and merchandise sales
• Call hikers prior to hikes to confirm attendance and arrange logistics
• Perform all other duties as assigned

• Must have up-to-date certifications in Wilderness First Aid and CPR (can be obtained during training)
• Must have successfully completed the Hike master In Training (HIT) program (can be obtained during training)
• Must have knowledge of RMNP and surrounding areas
• Must have a high degree of skill working with people of all ages
• Must be at least 21 years old
• Must meet acceptable criminal background‑check standards
• Must be able to work some evenings, weekends, and holidays

• Must be able to hike 5–20 miles per day in remote areas
• Must be able to carry up to 50 pounds of gear
• Must be able to converse with people of all backgrounds for up to 15 hours at a time
• Must be able to squat, stoop, bend, and stand for long periods of time
