Overview
The Camp Counselor provides leadership, direction, and supervision of campers in both overnight and day camp settings. Counselors ensure the safety, wellbeing and positive development of participants by leading activities, modeling YMCA core values, and building strong relationships within the camp community.

Responsibilities- Responsible for the care and oversight campers alongside your co-counselor.
- Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention, and emergencies.
- Supervises overnight and day campers, including mealtime supervision, camper safety/first aid, and leading and participating in activities such as field games, paddle boarding, arts and crafts, mountain biking, and more.
- Fulfills one week minimum of day camp and rotates through overnight camp age groups.
- Collaborates and works with other camp staff when necessary.
- Ensures safety and wellbeing of all campers under supervision, including maintaining appropriate staff to camper ratios as required.
- Maintains inventory of programming supplies and maintains camp cleanliness.
- Adheres to both association and overnight camp codes of conduct; adheres to program standards and safety and cleanliness expectations.
- Models relationship-building skills and MESH (mental, emotional, social health) skills for campers and staff.
- Problem-solves, communicates, and documents camper behavioral issues as they arise, and passes them to leadership staff as needed.
- Incorporates the mission, philosophy, and five core values of the YMCA of Northern Colorado in all communication with participants and staff.
- Maintains confidentiality of YMCA issues and records; maintains friendly, professional relationships with staff, participants, and community members.
- Practices positive guidance and preventative discipline techniques with natural consequences.
- Attends and completes staff meetings, trainings, and all mandatory licensing required trainings.
- Adheres to policies related to boundaries with consumers and attends required abuse risk management training.
- Adheres to procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising consumers; reports suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations; follows mandated abuse reporting requirements.
- Other job duties as assigned.
- Minimum age of 18.
- Completion of Child Abuse Prevention, CPR/AED, First Aid, and Bloodborne Pathogens (these can be completed during staff training).
- Attends required staff meetings, trainings, and all mandatory licensing required trainings.
Compensation and Benefits:
USD $400.00 - USD $450.00 /Wk.
