Location: Cañon City

CDOC - Program Assistant I Business Office – Canon City, CO

Position at Colorado Department of Corrections (CDOC) – provides administrative and professional/technical support to the DOC Controller and Business Operations. This role is open only to Colorado state residents.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Provide administrative, professional, and technical support for the DOC Controller and Business Operations staff, coordinating information exchanges and projects.
  • Complete daily electronic and regular mail processing, endorse and log incoming checks, manage postage warrants, reissues, and track all incoming mail.
  • Assist CORE Security Administrator and other staff with financial system security enforcement, reviewing access requests and recommending appropriate access.
  • Support the Business Operations Staff Resource Coordinator for assigned staff by interpreting and implementing policies and maintaining confidentiality.
  • Utilize the HRMES system to ensure current PDQs, update PDQs when required, initiate PARs, and ensure compliance with personnel and budget rules.
  • Manage, monitor, and track all Business Operations CCARD expenditures for office supplies and equipment using purchase requisitions.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Four (4) years of general clerical experience as described in the application.
  • Or a combination of college or university work in Business, Criminal Justice or a similar discipline plus relevant experience equal to four years of clerical work. Official transcripts required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • At least one (1) year of high‑level clerical duties.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of relevant federal and state law/legislation.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint) and Google Suite.
  • Experience with EOMIS, DCIS, PDCIS, CORE, Adobe, and eligibility system procedures.
  • Experience interpreting complex rules, regulations, policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Experience managing a budget.

  • Self‑directed, motivated, with strong analytical, proofreading, organizational, and multitasking abilities.

Employment Conditions & Eligibility

Conditions of Employment:

  • Must be 21 years of age and possess a valid driver’s license.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Must have no felony convictions and be legally eligible to work in the United States.
  • Must successfully pass all modules of the six‑week CDOC Basic Training, including Defensive Tactics, physical fitness, and other required modules.
  • Must meet physical fitness standards, including the ability to lift, kick, and perform defensive tactics drills.
  • Must pass a drug screening and a TB screening.
  • Shifts include days, afternoons, nights, and graveyards on a rotating schedule.
  • Will be exposed to Oleoresin Capsicum during training and on assignment.

Applicants who meet minimum qualifications will be considered for comparative analysis. Colorado Revised Statutes require state employees to be hired through a comparative analysis. Applicants may be subject to background investigations, drug screening, and other pre‑employment assessments.
