BMC Next Program, based in Colorado Springs, CO, seeks a Software Engineer to lead a software team in analyzing and supporting a large, distributed Java system.
- Perform complex problem resolution assisting software team in design, development, testing, integration, and user support for a large code baseline.
- Follow specifications to develop or modify stories for the software team; assist in removing blockers from software team.
- Interface with other system support groups and software leadership to resolve problems, set standards, and improve overall efficiency of the system.
- Develop software for Unix/Linux and Windows platforms.
- Software Integration testing including developing automated test scripts.
- Risk Management Framework/STIG/Fortify mitigation, designing and developing microservices and deploying with containers.
- Experience using Java.
- Ability to work effectively in a rapid paced, team environment; knowledge of software practices and coding standards; strong problem‑solving skills, including the ability to review performance issues, identify root cause, recommend and develop a solution.
- Experience leading a software team using Agile software development practices.
- Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an advanced degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience.
- Active and transferable Top Secret U.S. government‑issued security clearance required prior to start date.
- Command and control system application development – previous experience with message translation software.
- Automated test and pipeline development experience.
- Proficiency in Project Management Tools: experience using Microsoft Project, Jira, or similar platforms for scheduling, task management, and tracking project progress.
- Agile Methodology expertise: strong understanding and application of Agile methodologies, including SCRUM.
- Risk Management:
skilled in identifying potential risks, developing mitigation strategies, and implementing proactive solutions. - Requirements Management: experience in decomposing, prioritizing, and managing technical and functional requirements throughout the project lifecycle.
- Cross‑Functional Leadership: proven ability to collaborate with multi‑disciplinary teams, ensuring alignment across engineering, operations, and program leadership to achieve objectives.

Position Role Type:
Onsite. U.S. citizen required; active Top Secret security clearance required on day one.
Salary range: USD 107,500 – 204,500.
