The Lockheed Martin REALM AI team is looking for an AI/ML engineer who is passionate about cutting‑edge AI research, physics and defense. Located in Colorado Springs, CO, the team applies modern optimization and machine learning algorithms to some of our customers’ most complex and challenging problems, specializing in non‑linear stochastic optimization, deep learning, reinforcement learning and high‑performance computation applied to advanced missile Definitive.

The selected candidate will primarily extend and refine AI algorithms to new problems and domains, working onsite in Colorado Springs and obtaining a security clearance. The ideal candidate has experience building, fine‑tuning and testing AI algorithms for real‑world problems, proficiency in Python, Num Py and one or more deep learning libraries, and (desirable) physics simulation experience.

This position requires working within an Agile Dev Sec Ops  environment, including sprint meetings, planning poker, backlog grooming and Gitlab CI/CD. Some domestic travel may be required, but it will be minimal.

Basic Qualifications

• Strong background in math and/or algorithm development
• Working experience in Python and Java programming
• Experience with common software development and management tools such as Git, Nexus, JIRA, Confluence, VSCode and Jupyter
• Dev Sec Ops  experience including CI/CD pipelines to build, test, and deploy
• Effective oral and written communication skills
• Candidate must be able to obtain a DoD SECRET clearance

Desired Skills

• Solid understanding of optimization and machine learning principles
• Num Py and Sci Py experience
• Proficiency with one or more Python deep learning libraries
• Experience with physical modeling, simulation and differential equations
• Client and server‑side development experience
• Experience with microservices designs and web APIs
• Missile defense domain experience
• Containerization experience (Docker, Kubernetes, Helm Charts)
• Experience with Risk Management Framework/STIG/Fortify mitigation

Security Clearance Statement

Work Schedules

Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules. This position’s schedule: 4 × 10‑hour day, 3 days off per week.

Pay Rate

The annual base salary for this position in California, Massachusetts, and New York (excluding most metropolitan areas), Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, New Jersey, Vermont, Washington or Washington DC is $89,300 – $157,435. The range may vary based on location.

Washington state applicants only:
