Overview
Akima Facilities Operations (AFO) is a rapidly growing government services provider that has a full-time opening at Fort Carson, CO for an Appliance Mechanic in the Maintenance Department.
Responsibilities- The appliance repair mechanic identifies issues with appliances, analyzes malfunctions and repairs; rebuilds and maintains commercial kitchen appliances such as refrigerators, freezers, ovens, stoves, grills, fryers, microwaves, walk-in coolers, coffee makers, juicers, ice machines, food processors, blenders, mixers, and dishwashers.
- Operate and inspect machines and/or appliances to diagnose defects; dismantle and reassemble equipment using power and hand tools; examine parts for damage or wear; replace defective parts; test equipment to ensure operating efficiency.
- Clean parts and assist others with assembly and disassembly of equipment.
- Travel to on-site locations or customer sites to perform these tasks; work skills must cover both mechanical and electrical systems.
- Locate and install necessary repair or replacement parts; perform routine maintenance to ensure appliances function efficiently at Field and Sustainment levels; ensure quality of work and required tools/materials are used.
- Ensure work is complete and conforms to standards and requirements IAW technical manuals, ETMs, and local SOPs.
- Provide estimates, explain repairs, and advise on future maintenance; analyze malfunctions and conduct repairs for FMC.
- Keep detailed records of work performed and costs involved.
- Troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic systems; understand electrical schematics and use scanners on commercial vehicle fleets.
- Perform initial, in-process and final inspections of work orders.
- Ensure equipment and supplies are utilized properly.
- Performs other duties as assigned by Supervisor or Lead Mechanic.
- High School graduate or equivalent with training in equipment maintenance and management procedures at the DS/GS level of maintenance.
- Experience:
6 months to a year in equipment maintenance at the journeyman level; commercial experience on restaurant/kitchen appliances. - Must possess and maintain a current State of Colorado Driver’s License prior to starting or within 30 days after employment.
- Must be a US Citizen and be able to obtain and maintain a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI) to obtain a CAC; must receive a favorable background check and drug testing results.
- Equipment Directly Used:
- Diagnostic and test equipment; multi-meters, scanners, test sets, power and hand tools, test stands, and special tools.
- Work is generally conducted on site and may involve outdoor work with exposure to extreme climatic conditions. Lifting up to 50 lbs; stooping; climbing; prolonged standing and sitting. PPE is required in certain areas and includes head, foot, hand, torso, respiratory, vision and hearing protection. Must comply with OSHA, EPA, Fire Regulations and company work rules. May be required to deploy with a Military unit during training exercises down range or at a National training center.
Steel-toe shoes must be worn. - Freedom to act:
Reports to assigned Supervisor and functions somewhat independently under supervision.
