Join the Colorado Springs Utilities Electric Construction Operations team as an Electric Construction Quality Specialist. In this job, you will meet operational needs and inspect contractor crews and electrician installations on our distribution & transmission system. In this position, you will work with Planning and Engineering, Construction & Maintenance, and Distribution Control, performing various technical duties.
You will be responsible for ensuring safety compliance on job sites for both internal & external customers.
Starting pay for this classification is $66.01/hr once you have successfully completed probation, your pay will increase to $69.31/hr.
esponsibilities- Inspecting the construction, maintenance, installation/ removal of underground and overhead power lines and equipment
- Ensuring the quality of work performed in compliance with standard operating policies
- Performing Distribution Switching to accommodate repairs and clearances for external customers/contractors
- Setting up & receiving Clearances and Hotline holds for Contractors to perform their required work
- Ensuring compliance with safety regulations and work procedures for both internal & external customers
- Reviewing technical documents and designs for accuracy
- Ensuring the major projects are being built up to our transmission and distribution specifications
- Ensuring Line Extension and Service Standards are followed
- Using technology to complete orders and make progress notes
- Completing necessary billing and completion forms to close out jobs
Qualified applicants must have completed a Line Technician Apprenticeship program, and at least two years of experience working as a journey-level line technician is preferred.
A valid, unrestricted driver’s license is required.

- Performing the physical aspects of line construction and maintenance
- Applying safety standards in completing work assignments
- Electrical systems principles, voltage requirements, equipment, installation, and maintenance
- Interpreting specifications, schematics, and written instructions
- Metering principles and practices
- Installing and maintaining electrical distribution and transmission systems
- Must be comfortable using computers and learning new systems and technologies
- Exerts 50-100 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or 25-50 lbs. of force frequently, and/or 10-20 lbs. of force constantly to move objects. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Medium Work.
- Positions in this class typically require climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions. Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, vibrations, fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, workspace restrictions, and intense noises.
