Position: Patrol Deputy Recruit - Academy List (Non-Certified)

Ready to take your first step towards an exciting career in law enforcement? The Larimer County Sheriff's Office is hiring for Patrol Deputy Recruit (Academy Eligibility List). Join our team of dedicated professionals and play a crucial role in the safety and security of northern Colorado. This opportunity is intended for applicants without a Colorado POST Certification (Non‑Certified). Candidates who receive an offer of employment will be able to attend POST Academy with tuition paid by the Office, and they will be paid by the LCSO while attending.

Offers will be made to top candidates based on vacancies, funding, and available academy seats. The eligibility list does not guarantee a position within a year's time.

Salary Information

Patrol Recruits start at the Step 1 – Deputy Non‑Certified pay rate of $36.04/hour. After graduation from POST Academy, deputies will be moved to the Step 1 – Deputy Certified pay rate of $39.65/hour.

Responsibilities

Provide law enforcement duties, including protection of citizens and crime prevention, while maintaining security and preserving order. May perform duties of the Deputy Non‑Certified if assigned to the Jail.

  • Effectively communicate to provide information, directions, mediations, and de‑escalate situations to resolve conflicts.
  • Determine when there is reasonable suspicion to detain and probable cause to search and arrest, and when appropriate force may be used and to what degree.
  • Subdue resisting suspects using approved techniques of arrest control, defensive tactics, and weapons; resort to the use of hands, feet and other approved weapons in defense of self or others.
  • Pursue fleeing suspects.
  • Testify and attend court and speak in other formal settings as necessary.
  • Read, comprehend, prepare, and process legal and non‑legal documents.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age by date of hire.
  • First‑aid and community CPR certificates required within 12 weeks from date of hire.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license required.
  • No criminal convictions as defined by Colorado P.O.S.T. required.
