Overview
Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) role at U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs
. The incumbent performs a variety of supportive nursing and medical tasks necessary to care for patients during diagnostic and therapeutic visits at an Eastern Colorado Health Care VA Primary Care Clinic location (ECHCS). The LPN’s practice is modeled on the standards within the VHA Patient Aligned Care Teams framework.
$63,372.00/yr - $82,380.00/yr
Qualifications- Citizenship:
Must be a citizen of the United States - English Language Proficiency:
Proficient in spoken and written English - Education:
Graduate of a school of practical or vocational nursing approved by the appropriate State agency and/or accredited by the National League for Nursing (NLNAC) at the time the program was completed - Verification:
Available from State approving agency or NLNAC - Licensure:
Full, active, current, and unrestricted licensure as a licensed practical or vocational nurse in the United States (state/territory or DC) - Experience/KSAs:
One year of qualifying experience at the GS-5 level or equivalent for GS-6, with required knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs) to provide care and support across patient populations; ability to use clinical judgment to determine order of procedures; ability to observe, report, and document patient information; ability to educate patients and families; ability to work within VA policies and standards - Other conditions:
Ability to coordinate care, perform prescribed medications and treatments, recognize urgent situations and seek appropriate assistance
- Provide a full range of practical nursing care to patients with various physical and behavioral health needs
- Document information in patient records and communicate significant changes to the RN or provider
- Educate patients and/or families about disease processes, medications, and treatment regimens
- Initiate cardiopulmonary resuscitation as indicated and per center policy
- Coordinate clinic operations, including ordering and maintaining supplies and medications and obtaining patient data
- Identify and address equipment issues, safety hazards, and supply deficiencies, reporting for corrective action
- Perform nursing interventions and procedures within the PACT model and VA policies
- Use patient care equipment safely and report any repairs needed
- Care for patients with attention to privacy, dignity, and culturally sensitive practices
- Deliver patient education and discharge planning as part of nursing care
- Adhere to ANA Standards of Nursing Practice and VA directives; ensure timely execution of orders and interventions
- Maintain professional boundaries and collaborate with the care team
- Other duties as assigned; work location may be any ECHCS VA Primary Care Clinic
