Here's a summary of responsibilities:

Under the direction and supervision of the Sports Medicine Data Scientist, the Associate Data Scientist creates strategies to optimize athlete health and medical data workflows and surface data for Performance Analytics and Sports Medicine applications. The Associate Data Scientist applies advanced data science techniques to ensure data cleanliness, completeness, and quality. This position develops tools to derive and implement insights from medical and performance data.

This position also designs and deploys new data solutions and monitors and enhances existing ones.

Here’s how you’ll have an impact:

Sports Medicine Data Science Support
  • Leverage a deep understanding of reporting and modeling needs to create medical data workflows to drive data insights.
  • Support work of Performance Analytics and Sports Medicine teams by translating data requirements into scalable technical solutions.
  • Design and publish trusted and verified data sources to enable analysis at scale.
  • Assist with the development and validation of new algorithms, analysis tools, and predictive models as needed.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to optimize data collection and analysis tools. Implement appropriate logic and validation to ensure data quality.
EHR System Support
  • Assist with the ongoing development, innovation and implementation of the Electronic Health Records (EHR) system within the USOPC’s Athlete 360 platform.
  • Identify and integrate new data sets for Athlete 360, automating migration where possible and ensuring data completeness and quality.
  • Collaborate with the EHR Specialist Sports Medicine to validate appropriate user permissions and security settings, accounting for the privacy requirements of health information.
  • Develop, modify, and support the deployment of Sports Medicine data workflows (e.g., onsite support and optimization of Elite Athlete Health and Performance Profile sessions).
Data Integration & Management
  • Assist Performance Data Analysts with integrating relevant athlete health, wellness, and performance data and analysis tools into Athlete 360.
  • Architect data pipelines and processes to seamlessly integrate Sports Medicine data sources and systems into existing USOPC systems and database structures.
  • Perform regular data auditing and validation and implement processes to ensure data quality and functionality of EHR, Athlete 360, and associated data workflows.
  • Improve data systems and processes to make them more efficient, standardized and scalable for future use within Performance Analytics and Sports Medicine.
Data Analytics & Reporting
  • Create analysis and reporting to understand the contribution of sports medicine and related support systems to athlete performance, availability, and long-term outcomes.
  • Support Performance Innovation and division-wide strategic initiatives, as well as NGB engagements as requested.
  • Perform statistical analyses on data obtained by the Athlete 360 program, assisting users to make data-informed interventions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Here are the skills and experience you'll need to be effective:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Sports Science, Biomechanics, Biostatistics, Health Informatics, Epidemiology, Physiology, Kinesiology, or related field or equivalent work experience
  • 2-3 years of experience in sport science and/or clinical statistical analysis; applicable coursework or internships may be combined for this requirement
