Chief Information Officer – Polar Operations

V2X invites applications for the position of CIO – Polar Operations, for the NSF Antarctic Science and Engineering Support Contract (ASESC). This role focuses on providing program-wide IT and communications services in support of scientific research in and around the Antarctic region and additional support locations in California, Chile, and New Zealand.

• Set objectives and strategies for the IT department
• Select and implement suitable technology to streamline operations and optimize strategic benefits
• Design and customize technological systems and platforms to improve the user experience
• Plan the implementation of new systems and provide guidance to IT professionals and other staff
• Approve purchases of technological equipment and software and establish partnerships with IT providers
• Oversee the technological infrastructure (networks and computer systems) to ensure optimal performance
• Direct and organize IT-related projects
• Monitor changes or advancements in technology to discover ways the organization can gain a competitive advantage
• Analyze costs, value, and risks of information technology to advise management and suggest actions
• Ensure adherence to established standards of performance and discipline
• Interview IT&C prospective managers and assist in the selection of new employees
• Identify, study, and implement cost‑saving initiatives where applicable
• Determine and allocate resources to meet mission requirements
• Ensure the IT & Communications organization is not overly tasked with augmentation duties outside respective functional areas
• Plan and direct project execution; monitor and report progress
• Be customer‑oriented
• Approve Special Certification Appointments

• Proven experience as CIO or similar managerial role
• Excellent knowledge of IT systems and infrastructure
• Background in designing/developing IT systems and planning implementation
• Solid understanding of data analysis, budgeting, and business operations
• Superior analytical and problem‑solving capabilities
• A strong strategic and business mindset
• Excellent organizational and leadership skills
• Outstanding communication and interpersonal abilities
• Extensive, thorough knowledge of U.S. Government computer networks and systems
• Strong communications, interpersonal, leadership, and managerial skills with a diverse team background
• Professional courtesy in dealing with customers and employees
• U.S. citizen

• B.S./B.A. in computer science, engineering, or a relevant field; M.Sc./M.A. preferred

• Ten years of management and senior-level supervisory experience within the last fifteen years in performance and communications and IT support in execution of polar operations or similar expeditionary type environments (e.g., remote or austere operating environments); or equivalent NSF, NASA, DOE, NOAA or military experience
