Peer Specialist - COPA/ CPFS CERTIFIED (60031) at Diversus Health
Job Summary:
As a vital member of the interdisciplinary team, the Peer Specialist uses lived recovery experiences and formal training to deliver services in behavioral health settings to promote whole-person health, mind-body recovery, and resiliency. Assists with outreach and peer-based services through the promotion of hope, responsibility, empowerment, and self-sufficiency. Engages clients into services and/or programs aligned with their recovery path. Fosters connections between individuals and the treatment team.
Provides support to individuals experiencing their first episode of psychosis and/or substance use disorders within their personally defined recovery. Teaches and/or demonstrates healthy relationship concepts, effective communication, and other skills.
Environment and flexibility:
Diversus Health may adjust roles and responsibilities to accommodate changing business conditions. Duties outside of listed work may be required. This position may require standard hours, flexible hours, and overtime beyond 40 hours per week.
- Serve as a peer mentor/role model using lived recovery experience and formal training to promote whole-person health, mind-body recovery, and resiliency. Demonstrate compassion, dignity, respect, active listening, clear boundaries, and personal wellness within recovery.
- Assist with outreach and peer-based services through the promotion of hope, responsibility, empowerment, and self-sufficiency.
- Engage clients into services/programs aligned with their recovery by fostering connections between the client and the treatment team.
- Educate clients in learning new skills to increase independence and community integration.
- Maintain current knowledge of community resources. Assist in completing consumer forms and support clients into volunteer opportunities within the scope of the position.
- Preserve community relationships that positively impact services for individuals with mental health and substance use issues.
- Apply Diversus concepts and philosophies in a strengths-based, solution-focused approach.
- Alert the team to potential crisis interventions as needed.
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Self-identified consumer in recovery from mental illness and/or substance use, OR a parent of a child with similar mental health or substance use challenges, OR an adult with ongoing personal experience with a family member with similar conditions
- Successful completion of NAMI/COPA/CPFS Peer Provider training program
- Mental Health First Aid Training (completed within 60 days of hire)
- Excellent customer service skills
- Proficient computer skills (Microsoft Suite) and ability to type 25+ wpm for input/output of client information in electronic medical records
- Strong written and oral communication skills and ability to document services accurately
- Ability to develop professional working relationships with partner agencies
- Ability to maintain personal wellness and recovery tools
