Mine Reclamation Intern - Civil, Environmental Engineer or Scientist
Tetra Tech invites you to consider a rewarding opportunity within our Colorado Springs office as a summer intern (10-12 weeks). This position requires the candidate to work in the office regularly with our team to receive one‑on‑one training from other staff and form relationships with fellow employees with a range of backgrounds.
In this role the successful candidate will work primarily with our mine reclamation and environmental management team, supporting development of mine reclamation and closure plans, figure development, reclamation cost estimating, financial surety estimation, environmental data review, compliance reviews and permitting. Work will also support mine environmental compliance reviews for sites in North America.
An interest in working with active mining clients as they update environmental management plans and mine closure plans for additional mining development is a must. Additional project work may also include supporting other active mine and abandoned mine site projects including environmental site monitoring, abandoned mine lands site evaluations, mine permitting and compliance, engineering design for mine site restoration, and geophysical and geotechnical investigations.

Essential Job FunctionsWe are seeking an energetic individual interested in pursuing and supporting a variety of challenging projects. The successful candidate will work closely with Engineers, Scientists, and Project Managers on a variety of environmental and reclamation focused mining projects.
Duties include office work and may also include field work, including sample and environmental data collection and site inspections. Office work is likely to include preparation of comprehensive inventories of mine site features, environmental data review (water quality, soils, sediments, air quality) and comparing data against standards, supporting environmental compliance reviews, summarizing environmental data for input into technical reports, and creating accurate data tables.
Strong problem solving, time management, and written and verbal communication skills are required. Field work may include site inspections, soil and groundwater monitoring, documenting conditions of completed surface water and other environmental management structures, and work supporting remediation projects for mines and industry. The position may require some travel, typically related to construction oversight, environmental sampling, and site reconnaissance.
Must have completed at least two years of relevant degree program (Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or Environmental Science).
Must be computer literate and have knowledge of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Adobe Acrobat.
Strong problem solving, time management, and written and verbal communication skills are required.
Ability to learn about mine‑site environmental concerns and integrate new skills and software programs.
Ability to travel in‑state and out‑of‑state and safely perform field work at remote sites (approx.
