Purpose
The Principal Electrical Engineer position is responsible for design, design validation and test, and product sustaining activities for GPU‑focused storage and storage server product lines. The design processes include product specification development, electrical design and schematic capture, DFT and DFM design, and PCB and PCA stack‑up, placement and layout reviews. The engineer will participate in design verification and validation, including generating detailed qualification and test reports, and work with the Operations team in the initial release of the product.
The engineer will also provide engineering‑level product support to customers and the Operations team. The successful candidate demonstrates superior technical skills, advanced leadership qualities, is self‑motivated, proactive, and has good communication and customer interaction skills.
- Use technical knowledge and leadership skills to enable state‑of‑the‑art electrical designs while meeting program schedule expectations
- Generate engineering specifications and functional block diagrams for storage and server based designs
- Generate schematics and oversee PCB layout for storage and server based designs
- Drive system modeling to create “right the first time” designs
- Drive design process improvements
- Mentor younger engineers and technicians
- Create intellectual property that sets Viking apart from other storage and server providers
- Drive fabrication partners to best‑in‑class performance
- Develop product design requirements and documentation based on product requirements. Work with program management to create schedules that meet internal and customer requirements
- Develop designs that satisfy costs, schedule, functionality, DFT and DFM requirements
- Participate as a leader or team member in the complete concept‑to‑release product development lifecycle
- Work closely with system engineering, software engineering and operations teams
- Provide engineering‑level support for customers and operations for new and existing products
- Participate in continuous improvements in design process, quality, design and support activities
- Travel required to support product manufacturing and component fabrication, as well as onsite support to customers
- Design storage and server based products based on GPU modules
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical or Systems Engineering (BSEE) or equivalent qualification
- 8 or more years of relevant product design, product test, and development
- Extensive leadership experience guiding design teams to enable newest system architectures
- Expert knowledge of x86 server architecture, FPGA design, PCIe bus and general server/storage architectures
- Working knowledge of GPUs and common GPU deployment models
- Experience designing enclosures to support GPUs up to 600 W in power
- Understanding of GPU design trade‑offs to include power, thermals, performance, signal integrity, etc.
