General Responsibilities


This leadership-focused role supports Colorado's statewide outreach services for students who are Blind or Visually Impaired (B/VI), their families, and local education agencies (LEAs). With a dual emphasis on systems consultation and program coordination, this position champions equitable access, statewide capacity building, and interagency collaboration.

- Educational Outreach & Systems Support for districts, educators, and professionals.
- Short-Term Program Coordination for family events, enrichment opportunities, and professional development.
- This role is non-instructional and does not involve direct services to students.

Job Functions


Educational & Systems Collaboration

- Provide consultation to school districts and teams on best practices for B/VI education, including instructional access, FAPE, and inclusive technology and materials.
- Collaborate with the Colorado Department of Education (CDE), particularly the Vision Program Consultant, to align with statewide initiatives.
- Participate in or coordinate educational evaluations and/or Independent Educational Evaluations (IEEs) when requested
- Mentor and support Teachers of the Visually Impaired (TVIs) and related service providers across districts.
- Offer technical assistance and guidance around assistive technology, accessible educational materials, and learning media assessments.
- Maintain strong knowledge of IDEA, Section 504, and state-specific policies relevant to B/VI education.

Short-Term Program Development & Coordination



Design and facilitate short-term programs statewide such as:
- Weekend enrichment events for B/VI students and their families.
- On campus with partnering school districts. Professional learning retreats and immersive experiences for educators and support staff.
- Summer programming, such as STEM camps, transition workshops, and skill building sessions.
- Community-based family learning events with a focus on access, advocacy, and empowerment.
- Plan and deliver professional development for district personnel on B/VI topics (accessibility, accommodations, inclusion, transition, etc.).  - Collaborate with local and statewide partners, including assistive technology vendors, rehabilitation specialists, and parent support networks.
- Coordinate event logistics including outreach, communication, registration, materials, and data tracking.

Minimum Qualifications


- Master’s Degree in Special Education, Visual Impairment, Educational Leadership, or a related field.
- Hold or be eligible for a Colorado Educator License with a Special Education Specialist:
Visually Impaired endorsement.
- Minimum 5 years of experience supporting B/VI students in educational settings.
- Strong knowledge of visual impairments, accessible instructional practices, and transition planning.
- Experience providing consultation and/or professional development at the school, district, or state level.
- Comfortable using and modeling assistive technology and digital accessibility tools.
- Demonstrated ability to coordinate and execute programs or events effectively.
- Ability and willingness to travel statewide regularly.


Preferred Qualifications


- Experience working in interagency or state-level initiatives.
- Background in transition planning, vocational preparation, or orientation and mobility collaboration.
- Familiarity with statewide data reporting systems, accessible event design, and hybrid learning platforms.
- Comfort in a flexible work environment with some evening and weekend responsibilities.
