Mission Statement: The Colorado School for the Deaf and the Blind (CSDB), in collaboration with families, school districts, and community partners, educates and inspires learners throughout the state, birth through age 21, to achieve their full human potential through comprehensive, individualized academic, transition, residential, and outreach programs and resources. This position reports to the Early Education Center Coordinator and is responsible for providing standards-based instruction and support to children (and their families), Preschool to sixth grade, who are Deaf and who may have additional needs.
Utilizes Colorado Academic Standards and benchmarks in establishing instructional goals; and provides assessments that monitor student progress, in a safe and civil school environment.
- Master’s Degree in Education, preferably in Deaf Education.
- Appropriate Colorado educator licensure, with endorsements in Special Education (Deaf/Hard-of-Hearing), Early Childhood, or Elementary Education.
- Eligibility or ability to obtain preschool licensure within two years.
- Experience with children who are Deaf and/or have multiple disabilities.
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) at an advanced level.
- Knowledge of developmentally appropriate instruction and standards-based practices for Deaf children.
- Ability to assess, adapt, and apply technology in instruction.
- Understanding of literacy development in ASL, bilingual/multimodal, and spoken English environments.
- Effective communication skills with Deaf/hard-of-hearing students and staff.
- Teamwork and collaboration skills.
- Knowledge of Deaf culture, history, and audism awareness.
Reports to and is evaluated by the Early Education Center Coordinator.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENTFull-time, with an annual salary based on experience and education, following the Teacher Salary Schedule. Employment is at-will.
WORKING CONDITIONS / PHYSICAL DEMANDSWork primarily in a school environment, involving sedentary to light physical activity. Physical exertion varies with the level of teaching assignment. Ability to communicate effectively is essential.
