This position is located in Colorado Springs, Colorado. This posting may be used to fill future vacancies at this location.
This position provides training directly to mid-level providers on medical assessment, diagnosis, and treatment for acute, chronic, and emergency care for offenders in the clinical setting, which could include a clinic, an infirmary, or a special needs facility. This position is responsible for, but not limited to, the following:
- Responsible to ensure that all mid-level providers receive annual training and competency check offs.
- Responsible to provide remedial trainings as needed for any staff who do not pass competencies.
- Responsible to develop a robust training program for mid-level providers to include minor medical procedures core competencies including, but not limited to, joint injections, EKG reading, suturing, stapling, X-ray assessment, incision and drainage of abscesses, excision of cysts, application of splints and casts, removal of toenails and thorough physical examinations.
- Ensures practice safety, environmental and infection control methods.
- Responsible for liaison interface between the Clinical Unit and the quality department.
- Develop quality-specific training as needed based on identified issues for all mid-level providers in the state.
- Responsible to generate reports on training with a tracking mechanism to ensure that all staff have completed annual competencies training and check offs.
- Responsible for ensuring the standards of care for mid-level providers are met by verifying compliance with all applicable provider care, departmental, organizational and unit standards.
- Formulates and implements policies and procedures essential to promoting quality care in respect to direct provider care as needed.
- Responsible to work with the Regional Health Services Administrators, Health Services Administrators, Chief of Medical Services and Chief Medical Officer to ensure staff compliance with all Life/Safety policies and procedures and all other applicable compliance standards.
- May occasionally be required to participate in restraining an offender for medical reasons.
- Attends training programs as assigned including self-defense to ensure self-protection skills.
- Attend required meetings. Develop proposals and complete requisitions of items needed for training submitting through the proper channels to ensure budgetary prudence.
- Will be required travel to other facilities as needed.
- Works collaboratively with the Chief Medical Officer on offender staffing, constituent requests and projects as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Applicant must possess current, valid licensure as an Advanced Practice Nurse / Nurse Practitioner from the Colorado Board of Nursing or valid licensure as a Physician Assistant from the Colorado Medical Board.
