Position: Analyst I - Crime Analysis

About the Job: In this position you will perform duties related to the crime analysis programs and activities in support of the Department.

As an Analyst I, you will:

  • Perform a variety of analytical duties in support of CSPD operations including strategic, tactical, and operational analysis
  • Produce timely and pertinent analytical information relating to crime patterns and trends for specific operational areas within the Department and/or to support of personnel in the suppression of criminal activities, to aid in the investigation process, and to assist in the apprehension of offenders and clearance of cases.
  • Reviewing and analyzing data from multiple internal and external sources
  • Communicating analysis results and make recommendations to Command Staff, Investigators, or Task Force members.
  • Developing enterprise wide methods to measure and forecast both short and long-term criminal activity with the specific mandate to contribute to problem solving, intervention, and crime reduction efforts.
  • Prepare statistical charts, graphs and exhibits using collected data.
  • Write reports, prepare letters, expositions and summaries
  • Use highly technical and specialized applications/programs to cleanse, collate, analyze and disseminate crime activity data.
  • Utilize analytical, statistical and programming skills to interpret large data sets. Includes maintaining proficiency with databases (SQL), Excel including (Python, VBA et Al), video processing/enhancement software, complex toll data, desktop publishing, word processing, BI Software such as Power BI or Tableau, and GIS software applications as well as crime analysis methods, and procedures to manipulate, analyze and present data.
  • OSINT, SoMed, Cell Ex.
  • Testify in court about analysis
  • Support live operations by providing real-time analytical support to assist field detectives

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • The ability to analyze data and report findings and conclusions
  • The ability to write reports, prepare letters, expositions and summaries
  • The ability to forecast based on data
  • The ability to prepare statistical charts, graphs, and exhibits using data
  • Knowledge of intermediate math and statistical analysis

Education and Experience Equivalency: One year of relevant work experience may be substituted for one year of required education (or one year of relevant academic coursework beyond the minimum requirement may be substituted for one year of required professional experience.

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in a related area of study, preferably Criminal Justice, Sociology, Criminology, Psychology, or other related science/social science.
  • One year of full-time, professional experience in a related field.
  • Possess or be able to obtain NCIC/CCIC certification within three months of hire.

  • Ability to work independently with different demands competing for the analyst’s time.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills.
  • Experience with ERSI, Lexis Nexis AVCC, i2 Analyst Notebook, i2 iBase, Power BI, Geo Time or similar application
  • Experience with Penlink PLX
