Position Summary

The Grounds Maintenance Worker is responsible for maintaining and enhancing the appearance, safety, and functionality of government-owned grounds, including parks, public buildings, and other assigned properties. This role performs a variety of landscaping and groundskeeping duties such as mowing, trimming, pruning, planting, and applying fertilizers or pesticides, while ensuring compliance with safety standards and providing professional interaction with the public.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform routine grounds maintenance tasks, including mowing lawns, trimming hedges, pruning trees, and planting flowers

  • Apply fertilizers, herbicides, and pesticides in accordance with safety guidelines and regulations

  • Operate, maintain, and properly store grounds maintenance equipment and tools

  • Follow established safety procedures and regulations related to grounds maintenance work

  • Maintain basic records related to maintenance activities and equipment use

  • Identify and report maintenance issues or safety concerns to appropriate personnel

  • Work independently or collaboratively as part of a maintenance team to complete assigned tasks

  • Interact with the public in a professional and courteous manner while working on-site

  • Perform additional related duties as assigned

Qualifications & Experience

Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Ability to operate and maintain grounds maintenance equipment

  • Knowledge of safety procedures related to grounds maintenance work

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

  • Basic record-keeping and organizational skills

  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions

  • Good physical condition, including the ability to lift and move heavy objects

Preferred:

  • Previous experience in grounds maintenance, landscaping, or a related field

Physical Requirements
  • Work is primarily performed outdoors in a variety of weather conditions

  • Duties may be performed in parks, public buildings, and other government-owned properties

  • Requires regular physical activity, including lifting, bending, walking, and standing

  • Ability to lift and move heavy objects as required by job duties

  • Work may include exposure to environmental elements typical of outdoor maintenance roles

Schedule & Travel
  • This is a full-time position, typically 40 hours per week

  • Days and hours of work are generally Monday through Friday

  • Overtime may be required before or after scheduled shifts and on Saturdays

  • Travel is primarily local during the business day; some out-of-area or overnight travel may be required

  • Regular commute to the primary work location is not considered travel
