Overview
The Data Center Manager (DCM) is responsible for the overall management, operation, maintenance, and budgeting of the Technical Assistance Center (TAC), as well as the electrical, mechanical, and HVAC systems within the assigned data centers. The DCM ensures mission-critical uptime and oversees compliance with all customer SLAs. This role leads and provides technical guidance for Data Center Technicians (DCTs), Assistant Data Center Managers (ADCMs), and Critical Infrastructure Engineers (CIEs), offering career development and coaching.
The DCM represents Flexential professionally and technically when interacting with customers, vendors, and internal teams, and contributes to market efforts to improve operational effectiveness and efficiency.
- Facility Operations:
Serve as the primary point of contact for 24x7 on-call facility operations, ensuring critical systems support uptime goals of 100%. - Mission-Critical Equipment Oversight:
Oversee operation, maintenance, and repair of mission-critical systems and equipment to ensure 100% uptime and compliance with SLAs. - Budget Management:
Manage site budget, including staffing, maintenance, and repair costs, ensuring cost-effective operations without compromising service quality. - Team Leadership and Mentoring:
Lead and mentor a team of ADCMs, Engineers, and Technicians, promoting best practices and ongoing professional development. - Cross-Market
Collaboration:
Participate in regional initiatives to drive operational improvements and efficiencies. - Policy Implementation:
Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures and alignment of operational processes with organizational goals. - Technical Documentation:
Read and interpret blueprints, engineering specifications, and project plans to ensure proper implementation of operations and infrastructure modifications. - Operational Excellence:
Identify constraints and drive solutions to meet operational excellence objectives. - Disaster Recovery Exercises:
Oversee disaster recovery drills to ensure preparedness for emergencies and failures. - Customer Order Provisioning:
Supervise provisioning of customer orders, including electrical modifications, ensuring safe work practices. - Off-Hours Support:
Assist with off-hours and weekend maintenance as required to ensure continued operations and quick recovery from outages. - Reporting & Performance:
Prepare detailed reports on TAC and infrastructure performance, space and power utilization, and other operational metrics. - Method and Procedure Documentation:
Develop, implement, and maintain MOPs and SOPs for maintenance and operational activities. - Training and Development:
Provide training for operations staff and deliver training materials to enhance knowledge and efficiency. - Facility Inspections:
Conduct regular facility rounds to ensure equipment functioning and high-standard maintenance of the center. - Customer Engagement:
Lead customer tours of the data center and communicate insights into its operations. - Monitoring & Alerting Systems:
Configure and manage monitoring and alerting for critical equipment to detect and respond to issues early. - Other Duties:
Perform other duties as assigned to support operational efficiency and customer satisfaction.
- Provide proactive and responsive support to Flexential customers, resolving or escalating issues promptly.
- Troubleshoot and document technical issues in the Flexential ticketing system according to internal procedures.
- Perform routine maintenance tasks, generate customer reports, execute system updates, and manage backup services.
- Ensure all customer Service Delivery Audit preparations are completed on time and meet renewal deadlines and expectations.
- Education:
Associate's degree or 5+ years equivalent experience in a relevant field. - Management and
Soft Skills:
Extensive training in management, soft skills, and emotional intelligence for effective leadership and development of teams. - Technical Expertise:
