Responsibilities
  • Follow all health, safety, and environmental requirements; perform cleanup duties; perform material handling and storage duties.
  • Identify, use, and care for common hand and power tools; use and care of craft-specific tools and equipment.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and application of craft-related mathematics; knowledge and use of safety standards and best safety practices relevant to rigging; inspection of rigging equipment and hardware.
  • Knowledge and application of common hitches, emergency stop signals, basic crane hand signals, knot tying (bowline & clove hitch), and use of rigging equipment relevant to craft-specific tasks.
  • For concrete paving operations: operate concrete pavers (specifically stringless paving and Gomaco/Wirtgen paving equipment) and GPS (Trimble experience); navigate, maneuver, and run the concrete paver; confirm the deck path and grade for paving; follow instructions from ground workers for adjustments; spread wet concrete across the paving path.
  • Operate the paver to match production from the concrete batch plant and maintain a straight line; inspect, clean, maintain, and repair paving equipment as needed; control paving machines to push dump trucks and maintain a constant flow of material into hoppers or screeds.
  • Observe material distribution, adjust machine settings or material flow, and indicate low spots for additional material; coordinate truck dumping; drive machines onto truck trailers and transport machines/material to and from job sites as licensed; inspect and repair equipment using hand tools or report malfunctions to supervisors.
  • Set up and tear down equipment; operate machines to spread, smooth, level, or reinforce stone, concrete, or asphalt on road beds; control traffic and shovel asphalt; operate tamping machines or manually roll surfaces to compact earth fills, foundation forms, and finished road materials according to grade specifications.
  • Operate oil distributors, loaders, chip spreaders, dump trucks, and snow plows; place strips of material (e.g., cork, asphalt, or steel) into joints or place expansion-joint material on machines that automatically insert material; drive and operate curbing machines to extrude concrete or asphalt curbing.
  • Operate machines that clean or cut expansion joints in concrete or asphalt and that rout out cracks in pavement; cut or break up pavement and drive guardrail posts using machines with interchangeable hammers; install dies, cutters, and extensions to screeds onto machines using hand tools.
  • Set up forms and lay out guidelines for curbs according to written specifications using string, spray paint, and concrete or water mixes; operate asphalt spreaders and paving machines; perform all other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements Mental Demands
  • Understand and carry out oral instructions; read and carry out written instructions to perform work tasks; work at varying heights; recognize, avoid, and report safety hazards; assemble and disassemble objects; operate equipment and power tools.
Physical Demands
  • See hazards, safety warnings, and barriers; bend knees for lifting and routine tasks; stoop for work positioning and lifting; lift up to 50 lbs without assistance; comprehend and respond to audible/visual instructions, alarms and warnings; climb/balance on ladders, scaffolding, and structures; kneel for work positioning; reach above shoulders and away from body; demonstrate manual dexterity to perform tasks.
Working Conditions
  • Work in extreme heat or cold; work where noise level is above 85 decibels; work in wet/humid environments; work in cramped quarters; work in environments with fluctuating ventilation; work inside and outside.
